American farmers are fighting China Trade and bankruptcy due to high costs

Growing up on a cattle farm in Yell County, Arkansas, along with many other production farmers, I learned early on how price fluctuations and economic uncertainty can affect a family business.

Unfortunately, due to the previous economic policies of President Joe Biden, cotton farmers in America are facing rising input costs, low prices and high borrowing costs. There’s no doubt that it’s been a tough time for America’s farmers and ranchers, and that’s why I’m working to get them the help they need.

Earlier this year, I was proud to sponsor the major Farm Ball Reforms led by our State and Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman, Republican Sen. John Boozman; This law was part of our families tax cut. Unlike previous farm bills, which had almost no “farm” attached to them, the family-run tax contains provisions to help farmers directly and free up more money by eliminating waste, fraud and abuse.

However, these measures will not kick in until 2026. In addition, many farmers are already booking this year’s harvest, meaning they will not benefit from any recent increase in commodity prices.

Here’s the bottom line: America’s farmers need help – now.

For example, in our home state, our farmers are set to lose hundreds of dollars in soybean, corn, cotton and rice grain crops this year alone. The situation is so bad that Arkansas Cash Crop receipts are predicted to fall by $617 million by 2025.

Adding to these challenges for Arkansas farmers, the difference between the costs of applications (such as seeds, Fertilizer and diesel) and the prices of goods farmers are getting their crops at their highest rates in 25 years. Put differently, input costs are too high and income too low for many farmers to turn a profit, or at least, keep their businesses full. Unfortunately, the cost is holding back too many Arkansas farmers; Last year, among all of the Southern District’s chapter 12 bankruptcies (classified for family farms and fishermen), one in four was filed in Arkansas.

American farmers also play an important role in our consumer economy, which is vital to our national security. After all, food safety is the safety of the whole country. Our enemies would love nothing more than to see generations of farmers wiped out of economic hardship.

In recent months, soybean farmers have been unfairly targeted by Communist China. This is especially difficult for Arskansans, given that soybeans are grown on 41 of the ARKANSAS ’75 studied thousands of farms on 3.3 million acres in our state. While I welcome the announcement that Communist China intends to buy 12 million metric tons this year – and 25 million metric tons every year for the next three years – it’s reasonable, but confirm.

I spoke with President Donald Trump directly about the difficulties and hardships farmers and brothers in Arkansas and across the United States are facing. Without a doubt, Trump keeps them at the top of his mind and close to his heart. Now that Schumer’s shutdown is finally over, we can get back to work providing help to our farmers who will bridge the gap between us now and when families work with welfare taxes next year.

Our farmers and ranchers must have the help and support they need to get through the future. But most importantly, they must be able to continue growing, harvesting and working for future generations.
