Ukraine’s Peace Peace Forgiveness leaves Anti-Corruption Me at home – nationally

Ukrainian President Voldymyy announced Friday the dismissal of his powerful chief of staff, Andrii Yermak, who was detained earlier in the day by corruption investigators.

Yermak has been at the forefront of Ukraine’s plea for peace talks with Russia and the United States. He has also been a trusted finder of Zelenskyy’s for years.

The unprecedented search at the heart of Ukraine’s government comes at a time when Kyiv is under intense pressure to sign a peace deal nearly four years after Russia invaded.

Ukraine’s two national anti-corruption agencies said their search was targeting Yermak. Oleksii Tkachuk, spokesman for Jemak, said that anti-anti-trafficking agencies did not serve Yermak with a notice of suspicion, which means that he was not a suspect in the investigation. Tkachuk added that Yermak had not been told how the search was related.

Yermak, a powerful figure in Ukraine and a key participant in talks with the United States, confirmed that they searched his apartment inside the Presidential complex in Downtown Kyiv, where checkpoints limit public access. Media reports said Nemak’s Office was also searched, but investigators declined to comment on that.

It is not clear whether Zelenskyy or Nermak was there during the morning attack.

“Investigators are facing challenges,” Yermak said of the Telegram messaging app. He also added that he was fully cooperating with them and his lawyers.

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine and the special anti-corruption prosecutor’s office are Ukraine’s anti-corruption watchdogs. They are currently leading a major investigation into the Energy Sergy corruption scandal involving senior Ukrainian officials that has dominated domestic headlines in recent weeks.

It is unclear whether the search is connected to this case and the spokesman for Nabu, Anton Tatarnikov, refused to comment, citing legal restrictions on further details.

The spokesman for the European Commission, Guillaume Mercier, told the local Ukrainian news, Radio Svoboda, on Friday that they are following the development closely and that the search shows that Ukrainian anti-corruption agencies are working. He also added that the fight against corruption was the responsibility of the European country.

Investigators suspect that Tymur Mindich, a one-time business partner of Zelenskyy, was the mastermind of the plot. Mindich has fled the country, and any criminal proceedings against him are likely to be conducted in his absence. The two top Ministers left little ground.

The former deputy of Nemak – Oleh Tatarov and Rostyslav Shurma – left the government in 2024 after the Watchdodogs collapsed due to financial scandals. A third deputy, Andrii Smyrnov, was investigated for bribery and other crimes but Yermak still works.

The wrist has found many problems for Zelenskyy as he wants to continue receiving funding from the West for the Ukrainian war effort and tries to secure foreign funding. The European Union, which Ukraine wants to join, has told Zelenskyy he must break with integration.

Zelenskyy faced an unprecedented backlash from his brokers earlier this month after investigators published details of their investigation into power brokers.

Although yermak was not accused of any wrongdoing, several legal experts in Zelenskyy’s party said that Jermak should take responsibility for the dumple approval. Some say that if Zelenskyy had not angered him, the party would have split, threatening the majority of the Presidential Parliament. But Zelenskyy defended them.

Zelenskyy urged Ukrainians to unite and “stop playing political games” in light of US pressure to reach an accommodation with Russia.

Jemak met Zelenskyy more than 15 years ago when he was a lawyer entering the TV production business and Zelenskyy was a famous Ukrainian actress and actor.

He oversees foreign affairs as part of Zelenskyy’s first presidential team and was promoted to Chief of Fanzi in February 2020.

Yermak has criticized Zelenskyy in every single trip since the invasion of Russia in February 2022, and the President’s confidence has made Nermak’s power almost non-existent.

At home, officials describe Yermak as Zelenskyy’s gatekeeper, and he is widely believed to have handpicked all the top brass, including Prime Ministers and Ministers.

People connected to yermak and the President’s office have previously investigated.
