Trump meets South Korean President in Gyeongju seeking investment

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday met with South Korean President Lee Jae Angung in the city of Gyeongju – the last stop on his Asian tour aimed at securing new investment deals.

“The Republic of Korea is a dear and close friend of America. And as we can see in this beautiful country,” Trump said before the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, adding that South Korea’s representative “is a terrible person.”

During their meeting across the country, Lee asked Trump to consider allowing South Korea to access the nuclear weapons that were tested in the meeting, made with Nuclear – a long limit under the US non-discrimination agreement.

Trump’s previous stops during his trip included visits to Malaysia and Japan.

After his visit to Japan revealed nearly $490 billion in investment commitments, Trump said the trade deal with South Korea has posed a major challenge as he seeks another $350 billion in US investment. Trump predicted the total amount of investment could reach as high as $22 trillion in investments by the end of his first year back in the white house.

“I find that we will probably have 20 or 21 years, maybe $22 trillion of investment coming into our country by the end of the first year of my second term,” the President said. “And we had a very successful first term. We had the strongest economy in the history of our country, the strongest we’ve ever had. But, I think, we have very good policy.”

“Around the world, we sign one trade agreement after another to balance our relationship on a reciprocal basis,” Trump added. “I have signed important agreements with Malaysia, Cambodia, Japan, and our agreement with the Republic of Korea will be finalized soon, because everyone will cooperate when we cooperate with us when we cooperate with a silent partnership that will not be troubled by problems and without endless attacks.”

Speaking to business leaders at the event, Trump explained that an “economic revolution” is underway in the United States. The President urged the administration not to listen to “small minds without a vision,” to go against “trade, prosper and prosper.”

Trump later received South Korea’s Order of Mugunghwa – the nation’s highest honor – and a replica of a royal crown from the ancient Silla kingdom, symbolizing Seoul’s recognition of his past efforts.

Trump’s visit is linked to renewed tensions on the Korean Peninsula after North Korea said it was fired upon by a naval vessel in the West Sea.

“You’ve been launching missiles for decades, haven’t you?” Trump said North Korean leader Kim Jong un.

Trump also expressed his willingness to meet with the northern leader, saying, “We had a really good understanding.”

In a separate speech, the leader of South Korea warned against the protection of the world, urging global cooperation in trade – a message comparable to Trump’s America Pitch first.

Trump also previewed his next meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

“You know President XI of China is coming here tomorrow, and we’re going to be hopeful, I hope,” Trump said. “I think we’re going to get a deal. I think it’s going to be a good thing for both of them. And that’s a very good outcome.”
