Top military leaders are visiting Puerto Rico to thank the troops deployed for duty

The two top US military leaders will visit Puerto Rico on Monday to meet with the military and thank them for their work supporting missions throughout the Caribbean and Latin America.

Pentagon officials announced the visit in a memo on Sunday, saying the trip will include meetings with members of Puerto Rico and travel to the Caribbean.

“Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine and Seac David L. Isom will visit members of Puerto Rico on November 24, 2025, the second time they have volunteered their members to receive aid,” said a press release. “They will also visit and thank the seafarers for their dedicated, tireless service to the Southcom area.”

Caine and Secretary of War Pete Hegsethke for the first visit in September, when they stood on behalf of the Trump administration to show the military’s support for the training of the island.

This meeting took place at Muñiz Air Base in Carolina, outside San Juan, and attracted the highest brass of Puerto Rico advithant General Carlos José Rivera-RORGANE, Secretary of Public Security. Gen. Arthur Garff, and other top military leaders.

Hegseth addressed the nearly 300 soldiers at the base, thanking them and describing them as “America’s heroes.” The secretary of war also ensured that those serving in the armed forces would be well equipped and prepared for the world.

The latest visit comes amid tensions in the Caribbean, as the US military expands its maritime footprint near Venezuela, part of President Donald Trump’s push to stem drug flows from Latin America.

Earlier this month, Hegseth announced the official launch of Operation Southern Spear, to transport Narco-Terrorist networks across Latin America.

“This mission protects our country, removes our terrorists, and recovers our country from the Temisphere, and protects our country from drugs that kill our people,” Hegseth said.

Since the beginning of September, US military forces have carried out many deadly strikes against designated terrorist organizations in the Caribbean and the Eastern Pacific, destroying many ships tied to the Venezuelan Ejército de Libración Nacional. The attack killed an estimated 82 suspected narco-terrorists, with three survivors.

This campaign started in September. 2 with a strike that killed 11 suspected members of Tren de Aragua and continued in October and November with a series of targeted operations that eliminated many smuggling routes.
