Thieves break into Louvre museum in Paris, steal jewels of “incomparable heritage and historical value” in 7 minutes

Thieves made seven heists at the Louvre Museum in Paris on Sunday morning, they entered the famous row using a basket basket to force open the window, “The Minister of the Unreachable,” said the Minister of the Unbalanced, “said the Minister of the Unbalanced,” said the Unparalleled Minister.

The break occurred during broad daylight when visitors were already inside the Louvre, the most visited museum in the world. It was forced to close after the incident as an investigation began. Police closed the gates of the Museum and visitors were escorted. No injuries were reported, according to witnesses at the Louvre.

“The robbery took place this morning at the opening of the Louvre museum,” French Culture Minister Rachida wrote in X, while the museum called for “different reasons” for the closure.

The Heist happened around 9:30 in the morning, when several people entered the Louvre through the galerie d’Apollon and stole jewelry before fleeing on this motorcycle, said a spokesman for the Museum in a statement to CBS News.

“An investigation has begun, and a detailed list of the stolen items is being compiled,” the statement said. “In their market way, these things have an incomparable historical value.”

France’s ministers of culture and the interior were at the Louvre and working with museum management and law enforcement, the statement continued, adding that “all possible measures are being taken to return the stolen items.”

The Ministry of the Interior also said that forensic work continued on Sunday morning and an accurate identification of the stolen items was put together.

Video from the scene showed bewildered visitors being ushered out of the glass pyramid and surrounding courtyards as gifts were blocked by iron gates and the famous Seine canal.

Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez called it a “massive robbery,” said the intruders who entered outside using a basket lift. He said on France Internal Radio that the heist lasted seven minutes and the thieves used a disc cutter to cross the countryside. He said “actually it was the team that did the scouting.”

The Galerie D’Apollon is a haunted hall in the Denon Wing that displays part of the French crown under the French roof under the roof of the court of King Louis XIV, according to the ministry.

The French daily Le Parisien reported that the thieves entered through the facade facing the Seine, where it is being built, and used a freight light to access the gallery. After breaking the windows, they reportedly took nine pieces from the Napoleon and Empress jewelry collection. One of the stolen jewels was found outside the museum, the paper reported, adding that the object was believed to be an accent to Eugénie’s crown and that it was broken.

Security around Marquee operations remains tight. The Mona Lisa is protected by Bulletproof Glass and a custom high-end display system as part of the museum’s wider anti-theft measures.

Fishing and conservation have been the flashpoints of the Louvre. The museum has delayed opening in time for June staff who are dealing with overcrowding and chronic unemployment. Unions have warned that tourism has difficulties that hinder the safety and management of tourists.

It was not immediately clear whether staffing levels played any role in Sunday’s report.

In January, President Emmanuel Macron announced a ten-year program “louvre renaissance” – about € 700 million to make Leonardo da Vinci work on the art of infrastructure by 2031 – but the workers say that the relief means rest and leave the ground.

The theft, less than half an hour after the doors are opened, is opened by some of the latest wristbands of European Museums.

In 2019, thieves hit the vitrines of a green vault in Dresden and carried off hundreds of jewels worth hundreds of millions of euros. In 2017, burglars at Berlin’s BODE Museum stole a 100-kilogram (220-pound) solid gold coin. In 2010, a single intruder descended on a Paris museum of modern art and escaped with five paintings, including a Picasso.

The Louvre has a long history of crime and attempted robbery. The most famous came in 1911, when the Mona Lisa ended up in its frame, stolen by VinCenzo Pepggia, who had been hiding inside the museum and came out with the painting under his cloak. It was discovered two years later in Florence – the piece that helped make Leonardo da Vinci’s world famous masterpiece.

Home to more than 33,000 works on cleaning antiques, sculptures and paintings – from Mesopotamia, Egypt and the Starfical Old Horts to European attractions including the Mona Lisa, Venus de Milo and the winged victory of Samothrace. The museum can accommodate 30,000 visitors per day.
