The United Nations human rights office has condemned the killing of Israelis in West Ball in the West Bank by Israeli forces, saying that the video captured the men who appeared to surrender.
“We are shocked by the killing of Israeli police officers yesterday by two Palestinian men in Jenin in the west bank,” Indian human rights spokesman Jeremy Laurence told a news conference in Geneva on Friday.
The two men were killed on Thursday, Al-Muntasir Abdullah, 26, and Yousef Asasa, 37, It seemed that it was divided and donated during the invasion of the West Bank in the occupied West of Israel, and was returned by Palestinian TV Fooks.
The Israeli military and police issued a joint statement saying they had opened an investigation after the suspects were successfully evicted from the building.
Laurence said the killing of Palestinians by Israeli security forces and Western settlers in the West Bank. “Even if it was announced.”
“There are processes, there is the rule of law, there is due process and methods where you handle cases. The solution is not to pull a gun and shoot … It’s that simple.”
In a joint statement on Thursday, Israeli officials said the two men who were shot were looking for victims of a “terrorist network in the Jenin area.”
It is not clear who the two men are accused of, and he did not reveal any evidence of their alleged connection to a terrorist network.
Israel’s Minister of National Security Tramar Ben-Gvir, who was given an increased security portfolio in 2022 that includes the responsibility of border police in the western bank, is full of “part of the police involved in this shooting.
“The musicians did exactly what was expected of them – the terrorists must die!” He wrote about Social Media Platform X.
At Friday’s briefing, Laurence said the UN was able to comment, adding that it needed to be “released.”
“Statements by a senior Israeli government official who sought to expose the security of Israelis to the power of responsibility, raise serious concerns about the credibility of any review or investigation conducted by an entity that is completely independent of the government,” he said.
Last week, Israeli forces killed two Palestinian youths – aged 16 and 18 – during a night attack in a town near Ramallah in the West Bank, residents said.
Israeli police said in a statement that forces opened fire on four people who were ‘immediately threatening’ during an operation in the Kafr Aqab area but did not provide evidence. The police said that their forces were attacked by stone throwers and fire fighters during the operation.
The West Bank has seen a surge in violence since a truce deal was reached last month in Gaza. A ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas went into effect on Oct. 10, but during the fighting is expected to be stopped, the health authorities in Gaza have reported that they were killed by frequent Israeli attacks, at least 347 Palestinians were injured. Three Israeli soldiers were also killed during that time.
Fighting broke out in October 2023, following a Hamas-led attack on southern Israel that killed around 1,200 people and took 250 hostages, according to Israeli figures. Israel’s military response to Gaza has killed nearly 69,000 Palestinians, local health officials say, and destroyed much of the stockpile.
Palestinians in the West Bank have faced increasing military restrictions over the past two years, denying their freedom of movement as attacks by Israeli settlers.
UN’s Laurence said the Human Rights Office has documented 1,030 alpathini killed by Israeli forces or settlers in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, since Oct. 7, 2023.
“Not protecting the security of Israel’s illegal security forces and the illegal use of force only the growing Israeli occupation violence must stop,” he said.
“The High Commissioner calls for an independent, swift and effective investigation into the killing of Palestinians, and those responsible for the violations must be caught.”
