Osgood Perkins has made a name for himself as one of the leading auteurs of the high rise genre. It’s movies like that Lombegs and Blackcoat’s daughter acting as fragments of a complete vIBE filled with existential dread, the 2025’s The attraction It’s a refreshing break from the overwhelming tone we’ve come to expect from him.
A clear adaptation of Stephen King’s short story of the same name, The attraction It delivers the same cinematography Perkins celebrated, but goes a step further with its execution. The result is a high-caliber comedy that’s equal parts disgusting and disgustingly creepy.
I like to go to movies like that The attraction Blind, and I’m so glad I did. I knew it was billed as a dark comedy, but I was expecting the humor to be apart of the tension, not to explain the whole experience. Instead, the gore and improvisation serve as ‘horror relief’ to what is being done in straight comedy.
The attraction Centers on Hal and Bill Burlorn, twin brothers both played by Theo James in dual roles. As children, they inherit the bad breath monkey play from their father, Captain Petey Shelburn (Adam Scott), and everything quickly goes sideways. When the boys first turn into a monkey wrench, their crush, Annie (DANICA DREYERER), is murdered at a Hibachi restaurant. Later, when Hal tries to turn the key again with the intention of killing Bill, their mother, Lois (Tatiana Maslany), ends up dead instead.
Seeing the monkey is behind all the terrible disasters, hal and bill throw it down well and try to move on with their lives.
25 years later, Monkey’s curse returns in full force to bring down Hal, who now lives a miserable life defined by sorrow and regret. Before his wife (ex-mennell) and her new husband, Ted Hammendorman (Elijah Wood), get full custody of their son Petey (Colin O’Brien), Hal takes the boy on a trip last weekend. At that time, he repeats again about Bill, who believes The attraction You’ve escaped the well and are ready to kill again, one piece and a drumroll at a time.
It doesn’t take long for the body count to go up, and that’s it The attraction it becomes really fun.
While everyone is The attraction It plays straight as if it were stuck in a real horror movie, spoiling the murders and the humor of the situation has pushed it too far into the comedy realm. Jejajankulu’s ability to stay in Deathpan as people explode, get melted by waws, or get embarrassed by Realtor signs makes every kill more fun than the last.
From the listener’s point of view, these ugly deaths are impossible not to laugh at. And it’s not because of some twisted and violent attraction. Hal, notice that the cursed monkey drains his health again, responding with pure exhaustion. When things get really high, his delivery is tired of “Huh,” and it always kills.
The attraction It’s one of those funny movies you know you owe it to yourself to get. Even Stephen King, who had mixed reliability with the consistency of his work, praised the movie, calling it “batsh * t crazy.” Despite its high production quality, the film takes an opposite approach to the voice. It’s dark, funny, and dishonest in every way.
The attraction It’s a well-made film by a strong Director, but the plot doesn’t take itself seriously. Right now, you can stream it on HLU.
