Sunken tourist boat and another body found after Spanish soccer coach, 3 children go missing in Indonesia

Indonesian rescuers were found on Tuesday a the tourist boat that sank in rough seas about two weeks ago, it recovered the body of one of the two missing Spanish victims, the official said.

Seven of those on board when the boat went down in eastern Indonesia on December 26 were rescued alive, while four others – a Spanish man and his three children – were reported missing.

The search has included “sweeping nearby islands, sending sonar and conducting dives”, and will now expand to cover a larger area, Fathur added.

The search area had doubled from the initial one that focused on an area 5.6 kilometers from the sinking site, where rescue teams found the wreckage of the boat, Rahman said earlier. Rescuers conducted a thorough search in the waters around Padar Island, including the small islands of Serai, Pengah, Papagarang, Siaba Besar, and the northern island of Kanawa.

Indonesia is an archipelago of over 17,000 islands, where boats are the most common mode of transportation. With lax safety standards and congestion issues, accidents happen more often.

Komodo National Park is a UNESCO world heritage site famous for its rugged terrain, pristine beaches and the endangered lizard, the Komodo dragon. The park attracts thousands of foreign tourists for diving, trekking and wildlife tours.
