Sudan’s warring factions have formally accepted a “strong” plan to be put forward by the United States, Senior US Bemoy Massad Boulos said on Tuesday.

While there is no conflict with the content of the plan, Boulos told reporters in Abu Dhabi, UAE, that the Sudanese army has returned with “surprises” that are described as impossible.

US President Donald Trump said he would intervene to stop the conflict between the army and the Rapid Forces (RSF), which arose from a power struggle and started the displacement of people.

Previous efforts led by the US, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates have failed to bear fruit. The group submitted the proposal to the two forces in September.

“We introduced a strong truce script, but there is none [army] And RSF formally accepted the text that we put forward,” Boulos, Trump’s adviser on African and Arab affairs, said on Tuesday, implying that the latest plan was built on a September proposal.

Watch | Tens of thousands of people have fled El Fasher amid an outbreak of violence:

Aid groups in Sudan are struggling to care for the thousands fleeing El Fasher

Almost three weeks after the disaster relief forces captured El Fasher A dark news remains in the area. The UN estimates 90,000 people have fled and many believe that aid groups are responsible for gaining access and United Nations financial aid is stopping the gains of the people.

On Sunday, Sudanese Army Chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan described the latest US proposal as having seen too much, saying they had split the forces and given the RSF a fake.

Boulos, speaking at a press conference on anyar gargash, political adviser to the President of the UAE, said that the criticism of Burhan is based on incorrect information.

The Sudanese army has rejected the UAE’s involvement in peace talks, and has reiterated that it will accept it only when the RSF withdraws forces from civilian areas.

The UAE has been widely accused of arming the RSF, a claim it has denied. Gargash said on Tuesday that “serious claims and disinformation campaigns” would not stop his country from seeking peace.

Gargash also said that the future of Sudan cannot be left to the Muslim Brotherhood or related groups, referring to the influence of Islam in the Sudanese army, which Burhan has rejected.

Boulos said that if the US moves forward with labeling the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist group, they are communicating with them in the region.

On Monday, under the pressure of the international community after brutal attacks on civilians by forces that increased last month, the head of the RSF, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, said that his forces came under fire immediately. It was unclear Tuesday if it was a fire.

Watch | RSF said it accepted the US suggestion earlier this month:

The brutal power of Sudan is allowed to us the last human proposal

The war in Sudan has been raging for two and a half years, but in the past two weeks, opportunities have been reached. CBC News spoke with Nicholas COGHLAN, Canada’s former ambassador to Sudan, for more on this story.

Boulos said he welcomed RSF’s announcement and hoped it would be confirmed.

“Foreign financial and military support to warring parties must stop,” he added, without referring to specific countries.

Khalid Aleisir, a spokesman for the Sudanese government, which is led by the Army, said that the RSF’s announcement on Monday was a “clear Political Maneuver” meant to distract from its combat faults.

RSF said that reports of atrocities have increased and anyone found to have been tortured will be held accountable.
