The San Diego City Attorney’s Office has agreed to pay $30 million to the family of a 16-year-old youth who was shot by the police last January in what is considered to be the deadliest police killing in US history.
A resolution approving a proposed shelter with Konoa Wilson’s family was added to the City Council’s agenda Tuesday morning.
“What happened to Konoa was a catastrophic failure,” family attorney Nick Rowwley said in a statement to City News Service. “A 16-year-old boy was losing his life. He was not a threat and not a suspect, yet he was shot in the back by a police officer who saw him a second before deciding to press charges.”

If approved, this payment will exceed the $27 million that the city of Minneapolis agreed to pay to the family of George Floyd, who was kneeling by the police who kneeled in his car and sparked racism in his country.
Body-worn camera footage of Sydy from Jan 28 showed Wilson running away from a gunman at a downtown train station. On his way out of the station, Wilson met a San Diego police officer, Daniel Gold.
In the case against the house and the gold, the family accuses the liberator “immediately, without any warning,” shot Wilson, who was black, as he ran to the body, stabbing him in the body.
“It was only after shooting Dedendent and seeing him fall to the ground that he finally announced the gold,” said the San Diego police, the suit, filed in June.
Wilson was pronounced dead at UC San Diego Health Center less than an hour later.
An agenda item posted Friday said the fee will be paid into the community’s legal fund.
