Mick Foley Severs Relationship With WWE After Rob Reiner’s Trump Comments

Mick Foley severed ties with WWE amid allegations that the company was supporting the President Donald Trumpcalling the president’s recent comments about the deceased Rob Reiner “the last straw.”
Foley, 60, announced his decision to part ways with WWE on Tuesday, December 16, explaining via Instagram that he was “concerned” about “WWE’s close relationship with Donald Trump for several months.”
The retired wrestler said his anxiety was heightened “when it was looked at [the Trump] continued cruel and inhumane treatment of immigrants (and anyone who ‘appears to be an immigrant’).”
The change, however, came after Foley said he had read the president’s “incredibly cruel comments” after Rob Reiner’s death, saying it was “the last list for me.”
Rob and his wife, Michele Singer Reinerthey were found dead in their home on Sunday, December 14, after being murdered.
Us Weekly later confirmed that the couple’s 32-year-old son Nick Reiner He was arrested for murder and held without bail. On Tuesday, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office announced that Nick has been formally charged with two counts of murder and could face life in prison without parole or the death penalty, if convicted.
As Hollywood mourns the deaths of the director and his longtime ex-husband, who were 78 and 68, respectively, Trump, 79, issued a statement that appeared to point to Rob’s alleged problems with him as the reason for his murder.
“A very sad thing happened last night in Hollywood. Rob Reiner, who was abused and struggling, but once a very talented film director and comedy star, died, along with his wife, Michele, reportedly because of the anger he caused others because of his severe, chronic, incurable mental illness known as TRUMP Public Truth platform on Monday.
He continued: “He was known to have driven people crazy with his love for President Donald J. Trump, and his open-mindedness has reached new heights as the Trump Empire surpasses all goals and expectations of greatness, and the Golden Age of America is upon us, perhaps like never before. May Rob and Michele rest in peace!”
After these controversial statements, Foley revealed on Tuesday that he “no longer wants” to represent a company that is cheating a man who seems to have no compassion as our country marches towards a democratic government.

Foley shared, “Last night, I told @WWE talent relations that I will not be seen in the company as long as this man is in office. Additionally, I will not sign a new Legends contract when my current one expires in June.”
He commented, “I love WWE, I will always cherish my time with them, and I deeply appreciate all the opportunities they have given me.” But, in the words of Popeye the sailor, ‘I stand for everything I can stand, and I can stand no more.’”

Foley is a retired professional wrestler, comedian and author. While on the field, Foley went with Cactus Jack from 1991 to 1996. He was famous for wearing cowboy books and using things like barbed wire during his performances.

He made his WWE debut in 1996 as Mankind, taking over the Dude Love ring the following year. Cactus Jack returned in 1997 and Foley wrestled as all three during the 1998 Royal Rumble.
The four-time world champion was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013, one year after retiring from wrestling. Foley, however, has maintained his association with WWE, serving as Raw General Manager from 2016 to 2017 and making appearances on WWE Raw for years.
Meanwhile, Trump has had a long relationship with WWE, being the former CEO and Chairman of the Board Vince McMahonwho resigned in 2024 after allegations of sexual harassment. (McMahon denied the allegations and federal prosecutors dropped the criminal investigation in February.)
Before becoming president, Trump made several appearances on WWE programming and was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013 as a celebrity honoree.
Currently, WWE’s Chief Content Officer Paul Michael Levesque – known as Triple H – serves as part of the president’s fitness council.
