Sacramento Police Department Fears Man Arrested For Armed Crimes With Police

A man wanted in Sacramento on weapons charges was also found wearing various law enforcement patches and tactical gear, raising concerns among authorities that he was impersonating a police officer, according to Sheriff’s officials.

Sacramento County Sheriff’s authorities said Dallin Muran, 29, was arrested on November 11 on multiple weapons charges after investigators found a large cache of weapons at his home, along with law enforcement. The arrest came after Muran was stopped by East Sacramento High School security officers overnight. They said he was wearing military clothing and night vision equipment.

Muran was not booked on charges related to impersonating the law, but officials said law enforcement gear, police tips found at his home, and tips from the public raised concerns about how he was using the gear. He was released on bail hours after his arrest.

“We’ve had a few messages about a scary interaction,” said SGT. Amar Gandhi’s office of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office. “I’ll leave it at that.”

Muran did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Investigators began looking into Muran after officials received several reports that indicated “regarding East Sacramento high schools,” Sheriff’s officials said in a statement.

In one incident, according to the statement, Muran allegedly drove his car to the school at night and was seen wearing military gear and gogges at night.

When a security guard asked him to leave, officials said Muran argued that he should be allowed to stay because the schools were on public property. Authorities said Muran also claimed to have served in the war, although that turned out to be false.

During the interaction, Sheriff’s officials said in a statement, Muran expressed a desire to join the law enforcement community.

Last week, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Control Unit searched his home, where officials said they found several weapons working with law enforcement, including the Sacramento Airport Office, and the Los Angeles Airport Police.

Gandhi noted that it is illegal to have law enforcement spots and that some people collect clips as a hobby, but it is not clear how good he got his degree and if it is used in any public relations.

In one photo released by the department, a Sapkaments County Sheriff’s badge was seen affixed to a black bag.

“They all seem real,” Gandhi said of the clips. “But we don’t sell or distribute anything.”

Authorities said several of the weapons found had been converted from their state-matched configurations, and one short-barreled handgun without serial numbers was found during the search.

According to arrest records, Muran was booked on suspicion of possession of a weapon without valid serial numbers, full knuckles, carrying loaded weapons, and buying or selling a sniper rifle, among other crimes.
