Colin Jost Jokes On SNL That Scarlett Johansson Is ‘His Gravy Train’

‘Tis the season of Colin Jost again Michael Cheof the year Saturday Night Live jokes were exchanged and, predictably, there was some not-so-subtle talk about it Scarlett Johansson.
“Tonight is our Christmas show, and we have a tradition,” Che, 42, began during their “Weekend Update” segment on Saturday, December 20. “Colin [and I] give each other jokes so that we can learn what none of us have seen before.”
Jost, 43, revealed that he had not prepared the jokes this time.
“That’s exciting because he specifically said we weren’t doing it this year,” said Jost. “You know I didn’t write jokes for you.”
Che, laughing, told his coach to read aloud his newly composed jokes instead – including one about Jost’s wife, 41-year-old Johansson.
“A new study shows that millions of women are leaving the workforce because of menopause, which means a few years left on my gravy train,” Jost said, stifling a laugh, as a picture of Johansson was shown on the screen. “My girl is already like, ‘Colin, I’m warm, Colin, I’m sweating.’ Nondinda, you have a hot flash, but don’t worry about me. I have a spare [because] they don’t call Wednesday ‘hump day’ for nothing.”
Like another picture of Wednesday actor Jenna Ortega flashed in the mirror, and Jost buried his head in his hands.
“Wow, Colin, I wouldn’t do that,” Che laughed, referring to the idea that Jost could leave Johansson for Ortega, 23.
Jost replied curtly, “Wednesday?!” he started coughing. Che quickly asked his friend if he was “okay” before continuing the live broadcast.
Jost and Johansson have been together since 2017, getting married three years later in 2020. Since then, the Marvel character has been constant fodder. It’s SNL jokes.
“Now it’s rare to watch [SNL] without having a feeling … not a big panic, like a little panic because I feel like at any moment something is going to collapse,” Johansson said earlier. The Kelly Clarkson Show in July 2021. “And that’s the joy of It’s SNL and to every audience, right? Because it’s completely live.”
He continued, “When you’re emotionally involved in it and you’re not just excited about it, it takes on a little bit of a different life.”
Johansson watched Jost and Che exchange jokes live in 2024 after appearing on the variety show in other sketches but was not happy her husband was forced to make a dirty joke about the female genitalia.
“Costco has removed the roast beef sandwich from their menu,” Jost read aloud during the December 2024 holiday episode. “I’ve been eating roast beef every night since my wife had a baby.

Will Heath/NBCJohansson, who gave birth to the couple’s son in 2021, was surprised by the joke. (Johansson is also the mother of daughter Rose from a previous relationship.)
“Obviously, I was surprised by the whole thing, but they took notice of him,” Jost said in the January episode. The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “They were like, ‘Hey, would you be okay if Michael made a little joke, like, some kind of genitalia joke at some point?'”
According to Jost, Johansson was “open” to this suggestion.
“I didn’t know where it was going and an Arby’s picture came up,” Jost recalled. “Scarlett is backstage, like, ‘Oh, my God, is that what it is?’
Che later issued a public apology to Johansson during the May episode It’s SNL.
