Republicans scoff at ‘No Kings.’ A surprising new poll shows Americans are not laughing

Republicans have spent days trying to undermine the massive anti-Trump “No King” rallies held across the country over the weekend.

They argued that the people involved were terrorists and predicted violence (which would not be true). They said the protesters would hate America. And they argue that the message with “King” itself is one of indifference, given to President Donald Trump by a democratically elected president who sometimes works with Congress.

Trump said on Sunday that people are ‘against this country.’ He and his team have taken to posting AI memes and videos about Trump donning the crown – including one in which the President participated in throwing brown waste at protesters.

New polls, however, reinforce how much the “No Kings” message has resonated with much of the American public.

In fact, most Americans seem to sympathize with it, at least to some degree. And their levels seem to be increasing.

An interview from the Center for Public Religion Research gave people two options. Another was that “a dangerous tyrant whose power must be curtailed before he destroys democracy.” One is that he is a strong leader who should be given the power needed to restore America’s greatness. “

Americans choose the “Dictator” option by a solid line, 56%-41%.

And especially, that the Margin has almost doubled since April, when the Americans also live as “tyrants” but with a narrower line, 52%-4%.

This same poll also shows a 54% majority agreeing with the view that Trump is fighting “attacks on constitutional standards and the rule of law.” Another way is that the federal government’s flexibility is “overdue for tough policies” (43%).

It is possible to exceed such voting numbers. Giving people binary choices can change the numbers by making people choose one. People who don’t like trump but don’t think he’s a dictator may feel compelled to select the “Dictator” option to avoid giving in to the inevitable.

But apparently, the poll also asked people about the strength of their opinions. 45 percent of Americans who said they “strongly agree” agreed that Trump was a dangerous dictator, and 43 percent strongly agreed that he was arguing for attacks on checks and balances and the rule of law.

On both counts, nearly half of independents strongly agreed with these sentiments.

These are, to put it mildly, numbers that are not trivial. Say what you will do with the things of the “Kings” meetings; These polls suggest the show’s popularity does not seem to appeal to the majority of Americans.

And this is just the latest indication that a large number of Americans have such concerns.

To be clear, people see him surpassing his strength

Whether it’s “or dictator” or “king” or “king” or “Americans are sympathetic to the idea that Trump is abusing his power.

• 56% said Trump had gone “too far” in using the power of the President and the executive branch,” according to CNN. That was up from 52% in February.

During Saturday’s meetings, a number of monks said that the appeal to “Kings” was not an unreasonable place, given that Trump was nominated in 2024.

“I don’t understand that Trump is King when he wins all the emotions of the toss-up, the electoral college and the popular vote in a democratic election,” Meghan McCain said.

FOX News Annyyst Brit Hume noted that at least some of Trump’s policies have received RANDENT approval. “Another king,” he said.

But there’s no question that Trump hasn’t abandoned the limits of his authority — and he hasn’t embraced congress — in unconventional ways. The protesters don’t seem to dispute that Trump is truly a technocrat, as much as he wants to exercise undefined powers when he can.

And that seems to be an argument that most Americans sympathize with.

Many are worried about this for a long time

If anything, these concerns are already there and have only come to light as Trump has been gripped by more power.

Before Trump’s Second Term Begins:

• 53% said it was at least “likely” in some way “he would work as a dictator, according to the December Reuters-Ipsos Poll.

• 53% of voters said they were “concerned” about Trump’s 2023 comment – He said it was a joke – that he wanted to be the dictator of the day, according to the Quinnipiac University Poll.

It’s not just something different

It can be tempting to look at these numbers and think, well, it’s only half.

Ten years ago, many Republicans accused Barack Obama of acting like a king, too. And what about when Joe Beniden is trying to work on the Supreme Court ruling surrounding his movement on student loans?

But Americans clearly see a difference in Trump.

In another, in the last poll mentioned above, only 2 out of 10 voters said that Trump, Kamala Harris, was a Fascist – less than half of Trump’s number.

In another, the Washington Post-Ipsos Poll showed only 34% of Americans think that Biden had exceeded his authority, compared to 62% of 62.

And perhaps tellingly, an AP-Norc Poll in April showed a majority of Americans suddenly wanted to limit that research in ways they never had before. The percentage that says the President has “Montialed” Power rose from 32% last year (under the bid) all the way to 54% (under Trump).

All that suggests Americans – or at least most of them – see something unusual happening right now.

Republicans can try to downplay the “non-kings” rallies all they want, but they’re talking about something very real to most people.
