Former wide receiver and NFL Analyst Steve Smith Sr. delivered harsh criticism of Buffalo Bills second-year wide receiver Keon Coleman.
During the recent episode of the “89 by Steve Smith SR” Podcast, the former Rodina Panthers Star offered a clean critique of Coleman.
Smith’s comments focused on Coleman’s production this season and his apparent inability to ‘separate’ defenders.

“Well, the short version is: Nothing,” Smith said. “I didn’t see anything from him because he didn’t have opportunities, because he doesn’t make opportunities that don’t make him quick. But he said: That means you take a long time. That means the quarterback doesn’t trust your ability to get there.”

Coleman was targeted 57 times in 13 games played during the 2024 season, finishing the year with 556 receiving yards. He has 267 yards on 27 targets so far in 2025. Smith and his keeper, James Palmer, highlighted the drop thrown to Coleman from Week 1 of the 2025 season.
Coleman had been reinstated for the first game of the season, but was ruled out just weeks later.

Coleman had been reinstated for the first game of the season but was ruled out just weeks later. Coleman was listed at 6 feet, while Smith was listed at 9 feet during his NFL career. Despite the differences, Smith made it clear that he is inviting his doubts about Coleman’s ability to be a top option in the Bills’ passing game.
“And you remember, I’ve been accused by people taller than 6-feet, ‘Oh, steve, you’re jealous,'” Smith continued. “My man, out of 12 pitches, got four. That’s less than 30 cents. A five yard stick is about 35 cents now. . . .”

“He doesn’t have the ability to be No. 1, and he isn’t,” Smith said. “No boy. Can’t get a break. Can’t stop jamming. You don’t have one. You can’t teach a dog how to bark.”
Coleman appeared to catch the wind of Smith’s words, but let down the heavy shoulder by sending four funny faces to X.
The Bills have a 4-0 overall record in 2025 in games where Coleman has at least 25 receiving yards.
