New York, Ny – The three men running to become the next Mayor of New York City, the largest city in the United States, clashed several times on a debate channel Thursday night over issues ranging from the war on housing costs.
Public safety is discussed throughout the debate, with Mamdani’s offensive comments about the police and his calls to let the New York City Police Department take over.
“He believes in garnishing the police, disbanding the police, disbanding the police,” Cuomo said. “Who’s that.”
Mamdani tried to destroy his previous tweets himself, revealing that they were from 2020.

All three candidates discussed their plans to address New York City’s housing crisis with Mamdani’s “rent relief” plan drawing sharp criticism from Cuomo and Sliwa.
“Only raise rents and only lower taxes,” Cuomo said of Mamdani’s plan, prompting many of Mamdani’s opponents to argue that Rentires Awama-Frezes could do worse than housing stock.
Mamdani tried to dismantle the support of his previous laws to reduce prostitution and faced criticism from his opponents on that matter.
Mamdani’s past statements in Israel were another flashpoint during the debate. At one point, Mamdani said, “Yes, he supports calling Hamas to blaspheme, even though they asked questions about this topic the other day in an interview on the Fox news channel.
“I condemn Hamas time and time again and it will not be enough,” Mamdani said.
Republican Curtis Sliwa told Mamdani, “Jews don’t trust you to be there for them when they are victims of anti-Semitic attacks.”

The experience was brought up again and again in the debate, focusing on Mamdani and Cuomo making the case that they should be elected with the resumption of the right to move forward in the city.
“This is not a first-time job,” Cuomo said, adding, “He’s never had a job.”
“Thank God I am not a professional politician because they have helped to create this crime in the city we are dealing with,” said Sliwa, criticizing both records against him.
Mamdani shot back with a straight line at Cuomo in the magazine’s experience.
“What I have in experience, I have done with integrity,” Mamdani told Cuomo. “If you don’t have integrity, you will never make it with knowledge.”
With less than three weeks until Election Day, Mamdani holds a double-digit lead in the race for the most populous city, but Cuomo has narrowed the gap, according to recent public polls.
The endorsement race underscores how independent CuoMo continues to draw support from Democratic Democrats following Mayor Eric Adams’ combined withdrawal from the race.
