In a sign of California’s rise as a major Democratic political center, Gov. Gavin Newlom said on Sunday he would run for President in 2028 – just a day after earlier news that US Vice President Kamala Harris had made a similar announcement.
New Newloom, Democt who has become a nationally popular image this year as the leader of the resistance against President Trump, openly admitted that he is considering the 2028 presidential run.
In an interview with “CBS News Sunday morning“The subject was asked if he would consider it a “serious thought” after 2026 meters went to the bid for the white house.
“Yes, I used to sleep differently,” he answered matter-of-factly. “I could lie. And I’m not – I can’t do that.”
Harris said this weekend on Interview with the BBC That he expects a woman to be President next year. “It may be,” it may be, it may be.
“I’m not done,” he said. “I have lived my entire career as a life of service and it is in my bones.”
With more than three years until the November 2028 election, it’s entirely possible that one or two California politicians could finally throw their hat into the race.
But the story’s first willingness with Harris to publicly consider a bid for the White House shows that the Golden State remains a Central Power FASE BASTION PASE. It also places the 2028 political party among two of California’s most prominent and nationally focused political parties.
For years, Newloom has fueled presidential ambitions, just as pundits have looked to him as a candidate. But since Trump defeated Harris in the November 2024 election, the governor of California has emerged as a critic of the Trump Administration’s agenda.
Under Newloom’s leadership, California has filed many lawsuits against Trump – Most notably against the Trump Administration’s deployment of National Guard and Marines in Los Angeles. The governor also became He is very aggressive on social mediait takes from X to TAUTE AND TROLL Trump.
However, New New, whose term ends in January 2027 and who cannot run again with the governor due to term limits, has been warned not to run in the 2028 presidential campaign.
“I don’t know at all,” the newspaper said Sunday that he will decide to run.
After Trump defeated Harris in November, Harris was viewed as a potential candidate for California Governor. But in July he announced that, after “serious consideration” he would not run for California’s highest office.
“For now, my leadership – and public service – will not be in elected office,” the statement said. “I look forward to going back and listening to the American people, helping to elect Democrats across the nation who will fight bravely, and sharing more details in the coming months about my plans.”
Newlom’s interest in the White House raises the stakes to transfer 50 institutions, the voting measure of California has suppressed – in response to the same initiative in Texas – that will allow the state of the Democrats temporarily to change the boundaries of the Democrats. California voters will vote on Prop 50 in a special election next week.
New Newloom promoted his effort as a response to Trump’s push to redraw Republican maps – states controlled by Republicans to make them win the GOP. Some blue states have laws banning gerrymandering, but now they are following California’s lead and a few others, like Illinois and Maryland, are weighing similar actions.
“I think it’s about our democracy,” Newsyom said in a CBS interview. “It’s about the future of this republic. I think it’s probably, you know, what the founders lived and died for, this idea of the rule of law, not the law of the don.”
If New Newlom is successful in the 50th nomination interview, the movement can help with a mutual democratic election to bid for the White House.
But either way, both stories and Harris would face high stakes in the battleground states if they ran for President.
Just being a Californian is a liability, some argue, at a time when Republicans are portraying the state as bastions of reformist ideology, high taxes and crime.
While California has the world’s fifth-largest economy and is home to the post-hech howerhouse of Silicon Valley and the cultural epicenter of Hollywood, it has struggled in recent years with high housing costs and massive income inequality. In September, a lesson was learned California is tied with Louisiana for the highest poverty rate.
Although Harris and Newsloom both hail from the Bay Area and are working towards a democratic political system in San Francisco, they currently have to compete in the community for the same office.
“We’ve kind of been on this track, but we’ve always been close,” Newsyom told the Times last summer as Harris became the Democratic presidential nominee. “Disagreement was a form of expression of pendittry.”
NewsOM, 58, a former mayor of San Francisco who was born into a well-connected San Francisco family, suggested in a CBS interview that he pointed out significant obstacles to getting to this point. At first, NewAbeSM struggled in school and suffered from dyslexia.
“The idea that the guy who got a 960 on his SAT, he’s going to have to deal with these papers, that was sitting in the back of the class, the idea that you can throw that out, too,” NewsORY said. “Who the hell knows? I’m looking forward to who shows up in 2028 and meets that moment. And that’s the question of the American people.”
Harris, 61, who was born to immigrant parents and grew up in Compton, was a San Francisco attorney before serving as California’s Attorney General, then the Democratic Party’s 2020 presidential candidate.
He drew criticism last year after losing to Trump by more than 2.3 million votes, about 1.5% of the popular vote. Some Democrats accused him of being an elitist, successful candidate who failed to connect with the people who voted in the battlegrounds who have struggled with the economy in recent years.
But speaking in Los Angeles last month while promoting her new memoir, “107 Days,” Harris he didn’t he appeared think about any mistakes he made 2024.
“I wrote this book for many reasons, but mainly to remind us that there has never been an election like this,” said Harris.
“Think about it. The president who lives in the United States is running for re-election and three and a half months before the election he decided to run for it, and then there is Vice President Perice Montle to run, 107 days to go.”
Harris’ letter received some criticism for keeping score and killing dirt from Democrats who did not immediately support his bid for the Democratic nominee. When he called for news, he wrote, texted her that he was on foot and would call her. According to Harris, he didn’t.
Already this year, New New New NewsOM has raised eyebrows by going to war sensitive elections.
In July, Newloom traveled more than 2,000 miles to South Carolinathe situation on the other side holds the first Southern primary of the president. He said he is working to help the party win the US House of Representatives in 2026. But then there was California’s competitive indoor districts. South Carolina, the last strong state, did not have a single competitive race.
After Newloom spoke at an event in Camden, SCAME CLYBURN, the blackest member of Congress and a prominent democratic campaigner who played a key role in Biden’s 2020 Presidential campaign, told Election Hell. “
“You’ve shown that over and over again,” Clyburn said, though he stopped short of agreeing. “I feel good about his chances.”
But some leading Democrats in South Carolina have expressed doubts that the New New New New Chair can win over working class and college voters.
Richard Harpootlian, a South Carolina lawmaker who is a former representative of The State Democratic Party, called the News News “a handsome man with big hair.”
But he said the team is looking for a completely different person: “Someone who will enter on the left who can clarify the prospects and blue calls.”
“If he had a track record of solving big problems like homelessness, or a social safety net, he’d be someone to date,” Harpootlian said. “I think you’re going to have a hard time explaining why there are so many failures in California.”
