My first world problem is very simple: no matter how many streaming services I subscribe to. It’s hard to find an action movie that balances memorable action scenes with memorable characters and incredible dialogue.

But would you believe that we got an almost perfect action movie two decades ago, the production of which destroyed the marriage of Brad Pitt and Friends star Jennifer Aniston? That movie Mr & Mrs Smith (2005), and now you can stream it in all its retro glory on Netflix.

A Well-Armed Marriage is an Honorable Marriage

The foundation of Mr & Mrs Smith that a married couple is counseled, but neither wants to admit their secret: each is secretly a spy working for a rival organization. However, when both are given the same mission, each of them discovers that their mild-mannered spouse is a secret agent roaming the globe. This threatens to destroy their marriage or make it stronger than ever, and the final outcome may depend on who gets to his gun first.

The cast of Mr & Mrs Smith is full of big names, including Adam Brody (who is best known for The OC in the television series) as intended by both our respected agents to complete. Furthermore, thank you Mr & Mrs Smith even better now that I’ve watched (and seriously enjoyed) the Amazon TV remake; the show was often very serious, turning its premise into an opportunity to explore the intersections between identity, work, sex, and love. In comparison, the film is a simple romp whose basis is mostly an excuse to put as much sensational violence on screen as possible. But let’s be honest: who needs a serious plot when a movie packs this crazy fun into almost every frame?

You will admit that Mr & Mrs Smith is a throwback action movie perfect, or would you rather argue with your spouse than watch it to the end? The only way to find out is to throw yourself on the couch and stream it on Netflix. If you’re watching with friends or family, don’t forget the most important part: the heated post-credits debate about whether Brad Pitt should have broken up with Jennifer Aniston rather than roll the dice with Angelina Jolie, the baddest girl in 80s cinema.
