More than a dozen killed in Hong Kong High-Rise Resigueli Fichings Fire – National

The fire spread to seven high-rise apartment buildings in the Hong Kong Heassay Complex, killing 13 people and leaving others injured, the City’s fire services said.

Nine people were pronounced dead at the scene and four others were sent to hospital and later confirmed dead, officials told reporters. At least 15 others were injured, and around 700 people were evacuated from temporary shelters.

The raging fire sent a column of flames and black smoke as it quickly spread to the bamboo scaffolding and construction netting set up outside the housing complex in Tai Po District, New Areas. Records show the housing complex consisted of eight blocks with about 2,000 houses in about 4,800 houses.

It is not immediately known what caused the fire. Authorities said the fire started in the exterior of the building and later spread inside the building and to nearby blocks, possibly aided by windy conditions. The ministry said they received “calls” asking for help and some residents remained under arrest since Wednesday night local time.
