Johnson keeps the lawmakers at home as the deadlocked heads come week 4

The Clerk of the House of Representatives announced on Friday that Johnson appointed Oct. 20 on Oct.

It’s part of a pressure strategy Johnson has used on Democrats named for the ongoing government shutdown, which is stuck in its fourth week and the GOP’s funding plan.

The House GOP passed its Federal Funding Plan on September 19, a seven-week extension of the fiscal year (FY), called continuing adjustment (CR).

It was intended to give REMANI negotiators more time to strike a long-term deal on FY 2026 spending.

But Democrats, angered by the divisive rhetoric, are threatening to reject any money that does not include an extension of the covil-19 ObamaCare funding that is set to expire at the end of December.

Democrats show that millions of Americans are expected to see their health premiums even according to their wishes even before funding itself at the end of this year, and there is no plan in place.

Republican leaders have signaled openness to having those discussions in the coming days – albeit without changing the plan – but are holding firm to their demand that the CR be passed without any partisan policy rider attached.

Johnson told reporters earlier Friday that he would give House members 48 hours before returning to any votes, something he has not said publicly for weeks.

But while his House GOP is firmly behind him, there are a few Republicans who are growing uneasy about the long layoff.

Both reps. Jay Obernolte, R-Calif., and Julie FedorChak, RN.D., expressed concern over the extended time at home during House Republicans’ convocation earlier this month.

Rep. Kevin Keley, R-Calif., has been more public about his return. He told MSNBC live on television on Wednesday, “it’s definitely not acceptable to me and I think it only serves to mistrust.”

And rep. Dave Vavadao, while clearly not taken back by Johnson’s decision, told Fox Digital News that he was “honored at that” before lashing out at Democrats for putting the GOP in this situation.

At that time, rep. Johnny Olszewski, D-MD.

“Congress hasn’t been here in the House for almost a month when there are serious discussions that need to happen on reopening the government, and moving forward on health care spending,” Olszewski said.

In a sign of a possible longer shutdown, the Senate is preparing to hold a proxy vote next week on paying government workers forced to work during the shutdown, including active duty military members.

Asked by reporters if the House would go back to voting on the measure if it passed the Senate, Johnson said Friday, “If we have a way that works, yes, but I suspect the Democrats will do it again.”
