Jimmy Kimmel his wife, Molly mcnearneyhe opened up about how his late show stopping has affected their entire family.
During a recent appearance on the “We Can Do Hard Things” podcast, the couple looked back after a quick pull Jimmy Kimmel Live! On the air in September amid backlash over Kimmel’s comments about the death of a conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.
“We’re going to come home, and our kids are there, and we don’t know what’s going on,” said McNearney, an executive producer on Kimmel’s Show. “And we had to do that thing that parents do well, which is quickly put on masks. [We] He asked them, ‘How was football today? What is the funnest thing you ever heard at school today? ‘ We were just trying to have conversations with our children, but at the moment, our calls are empty [blowing up] all the time in our pockets. And there are helicopters over our house and madness outside. “
Kimmel, 57, and McNearney, 47, share daughter Jane, 11, and son Billy, 8. The patriarch also has two older children, Katherine and Kevin, from his first marriage Gina maddy.
Ultimately, Kimmel and McNearney realized the situation would not remain under threat for long. “Our daughter is in fifth grade, and the kids are talking,” McNearney explained.
The couple sat their children down on the bed before starting the conversation. “And we realized in that moment that any other time we’ve ever sat down to talk about something, I think it was good, because Jimmy said, ‘We want to talk to you about something,’ and Jane [got excited]Mcnearney said with a laugh.
However, the news that followed was hard to hear. After learning what happened on the show, Jane “burst into tears” and told her parents, “I’m going to sell my baby.”
According to McNearney, it was Billy who asked President Donald Trump he got involved. He recalled: “We were facing each other and we didn’t really know how to answer that question.
“It’s definitely not the experience I had with my parents in Las Vegas,” Kimmel said while reflecting on the interview.
Kimmel went on to joke that Jane is sure to inherit her father’s yeast game whenever he retires. “We never said this to him, we don’t know where he is,” he continued. “He has three other siblings, two of whom are actually adults and very important to take over if it really was a family business. …
All in all, Kimmel and McNearney tried to reassure their kids that everything was going to be okay — even if they didn’t believe it themselves. “Jimmy and I believed that all night LAST VISION DOESN’T WANT TO OPEN,” McNearney admitted.
ABC announced on September 17 that Jimmy Kimmel Live! would have been “banned forever” because of the controversial monologue, the host delivered days before. At that time, the source was only told US of the Week Workers at the fair were unsure of their future, noting that “no one [knew] What really happened. “
The end of the show was finally announced by the Walt Disney company in a statement on September 22. “Last Wednesday, we made the decision to stop production on the show to avoid further decline in our country’s quality,” the statement said. “It’s a decision we made because we saw some comments and that’s how we entered the final days. We’ve ended up in the final days having thoughtful discussions with Jimmy, and after those discussions, we came to the decision to bring the show back on Tuesday.”
When Kimmel returned to his show on September 23, he shed a few tears in his eyes and turned on Ologue and asked him if he “never intended to make light” of Kirk’s death. (Kirk was shot and killed on September 10.)
He also thanked his viewers, many of whom subscribed to Disney + after the suspension. “You supported our show [and] You cared enough to do something about it to make your words heard so that mine could be heard and I will never forget you,” he said.
