A fragile agreement in Gaza faced its first major test on Sunday after Israel allegedly claimed that Hamas had broken fire and hit back with air and artillery.
An Israeli security official told related media, on condition of anonymity pending an official announcement, that the transfer of aid to Gaza has been suspended “until it is difficult.”
Earlier on Sunday, the Israeli army said that they hit many stones in the Gaza strip using aircraft and artillery, after which they blamed Hamas for shooting at the Israeli soldiers.
An Israeli military official told CBS News that Hamas targeted its forces with rocket-propelled grenades and sniper fire. No injuries were reported.
“Both of these incidents took place in Israeli-controlled territory, east of the yellow line,” the official said. “This is a brazen breach of fire.”
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrested Israel’s security chiefs and his office in a statement that he had directed the military to take “strong action” He did not threaten to return to war.
Hamas said it was not involved in any of the clashes previously reported in Rafah in southern Gaza.
“We reaffirm our full commitment to implement all that was agreed upon, the first of which is the fire in all areas of the Gaza strip,” the EzzEdine Al-Qassam faction said in a statement. “We have no information about the events or conflicts that are happening in the Rafah area, since these red areas are under the control of the operation, and they are in contact with our remaining groups since the war began in March of this year.”
Hospital sources in Gaza told CBB news that at least 38 people were killed in the country on Sunday morning.
Israel’s military said it hit dozens of so-called Hamas targets.
Later on Sunday, the Israeli army said that “in accordance with the directives of the political echelon,” it had begun to “enforce a cease-fire following its violation by the terrorist organization Hamas.”
“The IDF will continue to implement the ceasefire agreement and will respond forcefully to any violation of the agreement,” the Israeli military said in a statement.
Strikes came like Israel pointed to the last two remains released by Hamas overnightand the Palestinian faction said that talks to launch the second phase of the ceasefire talks have begun.
At the time, Israel threatened to keep the Rafah crossing between Gaza and Egypt closed “until it starts.” A statement from the Office of Netnyahu, said that the rehabilitation of Rafah will depend on how Hamas fulfills its obligation under the last agreement to return the remains of all hosteres of all hosteres of all hosteres. The bodies of 16 hostages, two of them foreigners, are in Gaza, according to Israeli media.
At the same time, the US State Department warned that it had received “credible reports” Indicating that Hamas may be planning attacks on “Palestinian citizens” in the Gaza strip.
The State Department did not provide any details on the time or location of the attack, saying it would be “a direct and silent violation of the important progress achieved through mediation efforts.”
On Sunday, Hamas denied the claims, calling them “false allegations.” The group accused Israel of supporting armed groups operating in areas controlled by Israel. Hamas urged the US administration to pressure Israel to stop supporting the gangs and “give them a safe haven.”
Israel and Gaza used the first phase of President Trump Trump’s peace plan Last week, with a ceasefire there was activity in Gaza after Israeli forces were pulled back to a pre-determined line. Since then, Hamas has released 20 living arms and the remains of 12 others. During that time, Israel released about 2,000 prisoners and detainees. The released Palestinians included 250 people serving life sentences, and about 1,700 others arrested and held without charges since Oct. 7, 2023, a terrorist attack in Israel.
Israel has removed 150 bodies of Palestinians back to Gaza, including 15 on Sunday, according to the Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry. Israel did not show the bodies or say how they died.
The next stages of the final fire are expected to focus on cultivating Hamas, the withdrawal of Israel from the procedures that have increased control in Gaza and the future administration of the destroyed territory.
