An Ohio Sheriff has been called out by law enforcement agencies for previously issuing an illegal warrant for an extensive criminal record, after allegedly driving an Ohio nurse while drunk, leaving her seriously injured.

Johan Perez-Ventura, 27, an illegal immigrant from Guatemala, is charged with aggravated vehicular assault, reckless driving and obstruction of justice, according to Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones.

Courtney Steinmetz, a nurse and volunteer cheerleading coach, was driving route 747 on November 20, when she was allegedly hit in the head by Perez-Ventira

ICE says the suspect is suspected of killing a teenager in a second drunken driving incident that was illegal in the US

Perez-Ventura first crossed the Texas border in 2019, and was deported to Guatemala, according to Jones.

He returns to the US at some point, and in 2023, he was charged with an attack in Cincinnati.

That same year, he was arrested and charged with driving under the influence in Westchester, Jones said. Perez-Ventira was released after both were arrested.

However, Perez-Ventura’s criminal history did not end there. In 2024, he was arrested twice for drunk driving, and released again.

“This piece of S: [four times] In the duis … he had alcohol in the car, he had to be cut off from the car, [went] At the hospital,” Jones said in a video post on the Butler County Sheriff’s Facebook page. You know who pays for that. We do. … not his first time. … you are used to this. He would just be in the air. … not this time. We waited again [Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)] you do worry. “

Jones said Perez-Ventira didn’t have a driver’s license, thinking he might have shown fake IDs to police at other agencies, and they let him go anyway.

“It’s amazing in itself,” the Sheriff said. “Probably they didn’t want to send him to my prison because he will be fired. He [had] He has already been arrested at that time for DUI, assault, and crossed the border twice. “

Perez-Ventira, using an interpreter, said he was not the driver because he was on probation for a previous conviction.

After the crash, Jones visited Steinmetz in the hospital and said he could tell she was in “a lot of pain,” having suffered a broken spine, a broken wrist and a broken ankle.

“He is 27 years old, living his dream, working in a hospital as an RN, saving people’s lives. Now today, he is lying in the hospital,” she said. “He’s not getting out of bed yet. He’s going to be working for a while. He’s not going to be able to deal with problems for the rest of his life with his spine.”

A gofundme was organized by Steinmetz, to help with medical expenses, lost wages and his insurance – since Perez-Ventura had no insurance.

A family member wrote on the United website that despite his injuries, Steinmetz still “hopes that the opposing driver is doing well despite the pain this has caused.”

Jones said: “He doesn’t care. He looks at his driver shot, he has a bitter look on his face. “I promise you, he will not be fired and … he will get a little taste of the American prison. [He] He probably doesn’t like the conditions, which is much better than he should. “

Jones added that he will pursue additional charges against Perez-Ventira related to the accident, and investigate businesses that allegedly sold him alcohol, people who sold it, and people who sell or sell cars.

Jones said: “I have no sympathy. “If he had been fired and fired the first time, we wouldn’t have gone through this.”

They are almost certainly part of the illegal trade, with charges ranging from sex crimes to DUI and drug charges, most recently in Butler County, according to the Sheriff.
