How SCI-FI is more popular than Star Trek, it was destroyed even more by Hollywood

By Jonathan Klotz | Being published

There are stories told for every generation. There will always be a bond between James, Robin Hood, and Spider-Man. Those stories are timeless and will always find a way to appeal to a new generation.

Some stories seem like they should fit that mold, but somehow, Hollywood just can’t get it right. But when there is a smell of potential money, they always try, for better or for worse.

That’s why Lost in space…. It failed.

See all three types of lost in space in action, in the video version of this article.

The concept is simple, and on paper, it should have a quadrant appeal (Hollywood executives love to hit those quadrants). It’s about family, and they’re washed up in space.

A simple concept, but difficult to execute, with only the original series of the 1960s achieving any lasting success. The 90s movie is a perennial contender for the “worst sci-fi of the 90s,” and even though the Netflix series ran for three seasons, it was largely unknown.

The problem is that the original series is campy and goofy, leaning heavily on the stupidity of the premise. Today’s Revenge has tried to make it, respectively, dark and gritty or youth drama.

Lost in space You always follow the Robinson family in the shadow of moving to Colonize the Planet while the world collapses due to other strikes, or the result of a bad strike, or low-level robots, locked on the alien Planet. -Unlike- Gilligan’s IslandThe Robinsons leave the original planet and have a series of adventures in the far corner of space as they try to return home.

The 1965 series was compared to other Sci-Fi series aired at the same time, Star Trek: The Original Seriesbut unlike the arrival of the gathering business, Lost in space it was a ratings success. Mixing fun with Sci-Fi, focusing on Robinson (Bill Mumy), the youngest son of the family, includes the high plans of the villiphous of Dr. Smith (Jonathan Harris).

Aided by Robot and his classic CatchPhrase, “danger Robinson!”, he will be the star of the series. In retrospect, it’s Harris’ steal – a personal steal, an unmatched performance by Smith that keeps the streak going for three seasons.

Dr. Smith is a coward, a genius, lazy, and an agent of an evil organization that will not allow the Robinsons’ mission to succeed. Dr. John Robinson says he forgives Smith at the end of every episode, explaining why they go up with him despite the mustache – his villainy.

Lost in space managed to keep this setup active for three periods of diminishing returns. Fun plots, funny acting, and cheap special effects turned it into a cult classic and a staple of cable television through the 80s.

A A victim of the dark 90s and survived Restart the craze

The original was staying power and became a culture classic that permeated pop culture. The 1998 movie, starring Matt Leblanc in height Manager’ Popularity, William is injured, Heather Graham, Lacey Chabert, and in a moment of perfect casting, Gary Oldman as Dr. Smith, became a box office hit. Lost in Space (1998) It was very dark, both of them were visible.

A bright, desolate planet that had always seemed shadowy was cast aside. Somehow time travel is involved, sending the Robinsons into the future and Dr. Smith is the only survivor of the trip.

Gary Oldman entered Lost in space (1998)

You’d be forgiven for forgetting that Heather Graham and Lacy Chabert (in her film debut) were part of Lost in Space (1998). Focused like a laser at a young age will face the future of Dr. Smith, which only works as it works because Gary Oldman does not give less than 100 percent.

Lost in the story is any camp and charm of the original. Instead of a cartoon villainy over the top smith, it’s a story of a deadly killer trying to be a superstar Lost in space.

Mimi Rogers, Lacey Chabert, William Hurt, and Heather Graham in 1998 Lost in space

For some reason, Hollywood executives like to take campy properties and make them worse by ruling or restarting them decades later missing the whole point of the original’s appeal. Look for X-men decked out in black leather instead of bright yellow uniforms, either Star Trek: Generations.

Lost in space Is the last sci-fi franchise to turn dark and gritty. The film was a success at the box office, grossed more than $130 million, against a budget of $80 million, and then dropped like a rock as people watched it and didn’t even think about it for 30 seconds.

Netflix’s Teen Drama Version

The Cast of Netflix’s 2018 Lost in space

That didn’t stop netflix from bringing the series back to mothballs in 2018 more, this time as a series with Dr. Smith (a type of Park Expanding the universe allowed the show to introduce different colonists as the seasons went on, but the show also renewed the characters, answered the question, entered the child, in Penny Robinson, became a writer. The robot lost its floppy construction of the classic arm of the chassis elegant and sophisticated.

Netflix’s focus has been taken from Lost in the space travel from Will and Robot to Juren, Maureen Robinson (Molly Bolly). That should work, especially the clash of Parker’s Maureen and Posey’s Smith, but it’s undercut by the CW’s youthful writing.

Parker Posey as Dr. Smith on Netflix’s Lost in space

Every entry in the franchise has included at least a little romance between Judy and Don West, but the Netflix update turns it up to 11 with Judy falling in love with Vijay, the son of the next Leader. It’s not a bad series, but it’s not what fans of the original want, even if there are cameos by the stars of the original, the best of which is Bill Muny playing a different Dr. Smith.

From the dark and ride the drama of youth, lost in space has been revived by different generations, and each time it misses the mark. The original is campy, fun, and more fun, which is why it became a favorite of Sci-Fi fans, and even if you’ve never seen the second in the series, you’ve seen the robot.

Studios today need to add a twist to every IP they get their hands on, and then when they want to be cared for, they decide that being MAMPY Fun isn’t good enough to include a product. Instead, we have to endure the endless series of Sci-Fi, full of drama, where all we want is full of its arms while the villain curses if not because of those children being followed.
