The United States and China are planning to establish military bases “on potential targets and targets, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said on Saturday after speaking with his Chinese counterpart.
In a post on X, Hegseth said he had good meetings “with Admiral Dong Jun, Minister of National Defense, behind President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
During their speech, the two defense leaders agreed that the best way forward for the US and China involves “peace, stability and good relations.”
“Admiral Dong and I agreed that we should agree that we should set up military stations to intercede and mitigate any problems that arise. We have more meetings on that soon,” Hegseth wrote, in part.

Earlier on Saturday, Hegsseth attended a separate meeting in Malaysia with defense leaders from the Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), where he urged them to be returned to the west and the South China Sea.
“China’s growing maritime claims in the South China Sea fly in the face of its commitment to resolve disputes peacefully,” Hegsseth said at the meeting, according to the Associated Press.
“We want peace. We don’t want conflict. But we have to make sure that China doesn’t want to bless you or anyone else,” he added.
