A Hawthorne man has been found guilty of first-degree murder after admitting to stabbing his late wife to death and disposing of her remains, according to the Ventura County district attorney.
In November 2022, the 25-year-old socialite Rachel Castillo was watching her young sons in her Sikelent apartment when her husband, following them, attacked them with a knife and intended to be declared.
After only three hours, the jury was convicted of first degree murder on Friday and the use of a deadly weapon and murder by lying to wait, which means a life sentence without the possibility of life. His sentencing date is set for Jan. 12.
Zarbab Ali was convicted of murdering his ex-wife in Ventura County County Court on Friday.

Not long after Sim Valley police found Castillo’s place in a remote part of the Antelope Valley, Ali has now told investigators that he thought about killing her for nine months. Castillo was in the process of separating Ali at the time of his murder.
In the progress recorded and reported by Ktla, Ali explained to the detectives that they opened their 5-year-old sons, he left his trunk open and approached the door of the Castillo, he found it and opened it.
“Everything in my body was telling me not to do it,” she said on the recording.
However, Ali continued inside and saw the lights in the apartment. He later admitted that he would wait in the dark for Castillo to leave his bedroom.
Ali told something in my life. “I blame them for all my problems.”
His account of the killing is different, officials said. In a taped confession, Ali said he stabbed Castillo three times, a killing that “took a minute.”
But in court this month, it was reported by The Star, Ali revealed that he had lied about the quick death to minimize the impact on his family.
“In fact, he fought a war,” said Ali. “I was brave. I pushed him to the ground, and it was gory beyond belief.”
With Castillo’s body wrapped in clothes from his store, Ali drove to the Antelope Valley in a panic, prosecutors said. He buried him in a shallow grave, but the killing did not end there.
Ali admitted that, at 2 am the next day, he returned to Sourillo Desert High Toorime and removed the body and raped her body.
“To prove that I am a monster, I raped her,” the officials said. “If I hadn’t committed myself to being a monster, I would have died for no reason.”
Castillo’s sister, who lived in the apartment with him, called authorities after she returned home for a blood draw and found that Castillo was not there. Ali was arrested days later.
Court records show he initially pleaded guilty to first degree murder in the case before pleading guilty.
“He called himself a monster on the stand, and that’s exactly what he is,” Rachel’s father, Rachel’s wife, Ali said in court.
Rachel Castillo was a Simi Valley Love who worked for a local non-profit organization helping families who were victims of domestic violence, Dist. Atty. Erik Nasarenko said at the 2022 press conference.
She was studying for a Master’s degree in clinical psychology with dreams of becoming a marriage and family therapist.
