Former NYPD detective says Black Friday Lord threat has turned holiday weekend into Shoplifters’ “Super Bowl” with restail reporting

The 2024 report issued by the National Retail Federation Federal Detail more than 93% in the year 2023 compared to the increase of 90% with the loss of dollars due to the decline. The agency estimates 186.9 million Americans will shop between Thanksgiving and Monday.

Former NYPD chief Patrick Brosnan told FOX News Digital that organized crime theft is no longer just “more theft,” adding, “this is a different deal.”

Brosnan said organized robbery has become a “highly profitable business” and is expanding “faster than law enforcement can keep up with.”

“Organized crime today in 2025, it’s not even teenagers stealing T-shirts anymore,” Brosnan said. “These are professional extortion rings that operate across state lines, dealing with online marketplaces that are full and networked. They have a very sophisticated, lucrative, profitable business.”

Law enforcement agencies across the United States increase brokers on Black Friday in an effort to prevent theft, including those in the nation’s largest cities, such as Nashville, San Francisco, Los Angeles and many more.

Brosnan compared the Black Friday looters to one of the biggest sporting events of all time as millions of Americans flock to malls.

“Black Friday is their Super Bowl, right? The stores are full, you have to understand, it’s very easy to get mixed up. “Law enforcement has very important challenges to overcome. It’s not just a normal day.”

The former NYPD detective, who founded Brosnan’s risk-taking consultants and instructed major retailers, said he urged clients to release “high-end” emails, such as perfumes, perfumes and designer goods. He added that stores should also consider placing their equipment in sealed cases.

While Brosnan said retailers are doing “everything they can” to reduce theft, it’s “bad” that it’s “very bad.”

“You want to do business, people have to come in. And if bad people come in with good people, there’s a lot you can do,” he said. “I have to tell you, [shoplifters] Come in, they come as a gang, organized, very focused, very knowledgeable as to the truth of where things need to be found and how they are going to find them. “
