Yoervis Medinaformer shortstop for the Seattle Mariners and Chicago Cubs, has died. He was 37 years old.

Medina suffered a heart attack while driving in Carabobo, Venezuela, and died in a car accident on October 31, according to Seattle Times. Radio American Venezuela also reported that Medina’s car hit several nearby cars, adding that Medina was pronounced dead at the scene without vital signs.
The former baseball player made his debut with the Mariners as an amateur free agent in 2005 and spent seven seasons with the team before joining the team for three seasons and 140 innings.
“We are saddened to hear of the passing of Mariner Pitcher Yoervis Medina,” the statement said in a statement on October 31.
Medina was traded to the Cubs in May 2015 in a trade Wellington Castillo. Medina then appeared in seven games for Chicago before being waived (meaning he was removed from the team’s 40-man roster.
Medina also joined the Philadelphia Phillies affiliate, where he played three games before being released. He played in 2023 with Tecnogranititananiti, and in the Venezuelan Baseball League.
The news of Medina’s death comes days after the passing of the New York Yankees player Jesús monterowho died at the age of 35.

Monroe also played for the Mariners. The club commented on his death shortly after it was announced.
“We are very saddened by the passing of Mariner Jeriners.
A gofundme for Mondero was set up on October 6. “He is currently in critical condition, with multiple leg fractures, several broken ribs, and multiple lung injuries,” the website reads. “Doctors have kept him in a borrowed tank to help with oxygenation and stability, and he is also undergoing dialysis to support his kidneys.”
The message continues, “Jesús is not only a great athlete but also kind, with a big heart, who knows him. Those who know him understand his strength and fighting spirit – but today, He needs our help to continue fighting the field.”
In the award shared on October 16, Montero’s family expressed ‘deep gratitude for all your support, prayers and messages – it was a great source of strength for Jesús and our family. “
