Feds step up hunt for answers after DC bombing suspect arrested

Federal agents are searching the Virginia home of Brian Cole Jr., who is accused of planting pipe bombs in Washington on Jan.

Cole was arrested in Woodbridge, Virginia, last week after financial investigators identified him as the suspect suspected of planting pipe bombs on Jan. 5, 2021, near the Capitol, the Republican National Committee (RNC) and the Democratic National Committee. His arrest marked the first major break in the years-long trial.

FBI Special Agent Jason Pack, who previously led the evidence response teams, told FOX News Digital The search followed the standard sequence used for active investigations, starting with cleaning the accident before processing the evidence. He said the careful pace shows the investigators are treating the case as if it had already happened.

The operation began with the usual security measures used in the investigation of explosive explosions.

“Federal agents are following a deliberate and routine pursuit as the search for the Woodbridge Residence continues,” Paka said. “The presence of Orrance disposal experts, bomb squads and special K-9 teams shows that safety comes first.”

He explained that the investigators must first remove the material of possible explosive hazards to protect the workers and maintain the situation before they start collecting evidence.

Pack said metal paint cans are the preferred method for collecting and transporting explosives because they limit contamination and protect volatile samples. The cans also allow forensic laboratories to analyze residues, components and chemicals that can link the resource to a specific process or procedure.

When the scene is declared safe, evidence teams can move inside the home.

Members of the FBI’s Evidence Respont Respont Team, guided by the Federal Search Warrant and its attachments, usually handle the next phase of the search and use those documents to find out what they are authorized to seize.

Those categories include explosive components or explosive chemicals; Tools or materials used to make destructive devices; Electronic devices such as telephones, hard drives and laptops; Records, notes or digital communications that may indicate planning, motivation or information; and things that confirm the ownership, occupancy or control of a residence.

In this investigation, agents are looking for evidence establishing the motive, power and any links to the explosive devices planted on Jan. 5, 2021.

Once the evidence is collected, it enters a lengthy phase of investigative analysis.

Any electronic interception will be subjected to digital forensics to recover communication, search or location data that may reveal planning or interaction. Laboratories will also test the remains or elements to determine if they match the devices used in the Capitol Complex, the RNC or the DNC.

The package said the search in Woodbridge shows the FBI that the treatment may have started, he said, “the whole” case.

“I became a new set of eyes on cold cases, and I worked on them as if the crime had happened that morning,” she said. “Primary investigators often do a great job. A new perspective simply asks different questions and sometimes you see details that end up bringing justice.”

The package said the US Attorney’s office is responsible for obtaining warrants and court orders directing investigations into alleged evidence.

“When the immediate danger has passed, the old cases are often packed into a pile of files handled by the United States’ overworked paramedics,” he said. “That would cut down on warrants and subpoenas, not because anyone is dragging their feet, but because they’re dying on urgent matters.”

Similar pressures have hit FBI agents, he says, as new threats emerge each day and old cases are pushed back while “investigators run to the sound of guns.”

“There are only 12,000 FBI agents in the world, and that small group is responsible for handling every threat that comes in,” Paka said. “When the leadership pours out the resources returned to this case, the whole machine turns forward. The sun finds that the shadows hide, and a second look makes all the difference.”

Cole appeared in court on Friday and appeared the day before and charged with supplying an explosive device to a joint venture and attempting to destroy property using an explosive device.

He has been talking to investigators and reportedly allowed them to plant devices and raise doubts about the outcome of the 2020 presidential election, a source close to the investigation told FOX News.
