Federal agents launched a major immigration crackdown in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Saturday.

US Border Patrol agents have been seen conducting house arrests on more than 900,000 citizens, the Associated Press reported.

The operation is part of a federal push to ensure that “Americans are safe and threats to public safety are removed,” according to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Tricia McLauldin.

“Americans should be able to live without the fear of their brothers, their families, or their neighbors,” McLaklollin said in a statement.

However, some local leaders quickly condemned the attack.

The Mayor of Charlotte Mayor, and Mecklenburg County Commissioner Mark Jerrell and Charlotte-Mecklenburg School Steam School Steam Stephanie Sneed, said in a joint statement of the actions “causing unnecessary fear and uncertainty.”

“We want the people of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County to know that we stand with all residents who want to move on with their lives,” the statement said.

US-born Henduran resident Willy Aceituno told Associated Press that he saw “a lot of Latinos running” as Border Patrol agents drove away on Saturday. He also stopped twice.

The move comes months after the fatal stabbing of Iryna Zaritska, a 23-year-old Ukrainian activist, on a Charlotte light rail.

It follows similar forced immigration attacks in California, Illinois, Oregon and New York.

On Friday, local leaders encouraged the residents of Charlotte to restore peace and record the actions of agents from afar, criticizing the actions of the Trump administration in other countries across the country.

“We’re living in a mountain of times,” Mecklenburg County Commissioner Susan Rodriguez-McDowell said Friday.

The leaders gathered the next day Mecklenburg County Sheriff Garry McFadden announced that Federal officials have announced that the customs of the US and USrder Devitents will begin mandatory work in the community on Saturday or early next week.

DHS Mayor Charlotte VILLES did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
