Eric Dane‘ Bright minds a role that was drawn from his own life as his character learned to depend on his family during a debilitating battle with ALS.
In the Monday, November 24, episode of the NBC series, Dane, 53, played a patient named Matthew, who was experiencing his ALS progressing and his symptoms making daily life very difficult. Matthew initially refuses to tell his wife and daughter what is going on, although he eventually reveals that he is struggling.
After denying the change he would have to make to accommodate his health issues, Matthew chose to return to his family. He admitted that he couldn’t face his battles without his loved ones by his side.
“The act of rescue is sometimes associated with things like bravery and bravery. But for people like me, I’ve always looked at it as an act of caring,” says Eric’s character in an emotional voice. “I guess I’ve never seen myself as someone who needs to be taken care of.”
Matthew noted that he needed to change his view.
“But I know now that even on my hardest days and the hardest days of all, you and your mother will save me from many fires that may come. “Sometimes the most heroic thing you can do is run from a burning building. It’s quiet, it’s small but in a heavy way – at least for me.”
He added: “To allow you and your mother, to accept help, to agree to this word bank business that Dr Pierce was talking about [is] Allowing myself to be saved – even if I don’t want to. For me, this is the bravest thing I have ever done. And it’s scary as hell. But it’s worth it if it means more time with you. “

“I was diagnosed with ALS,” Dane said in an April statement. “I’m happy to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter. I feel fortunate that I can continue to work and see to it that I’m providing for my family and privacy at this time.”
Dane remembers when he first noticed the symptoms of the disease causing muscle control while affecting nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.
“I started experiencing some weakness on my right side. And I didn’t really think anything of it at the time, I thought maybe I’d been texting a lot and my hand was really tired,” explained my hand Hello America in June. “A few weeks later, I realized it was worse. I went and saw a hand specialist, who sent me to another neurologist, and he said, ‘This is way above me.'”

Dane continues: “I have one arm that works. … my left side works. My right side, [which is my dominant side]stop working completely. [My left arm] it continues. I felt like maybe a couple, a few months and I wouldn’t have my left. … I’m worried about my legs. “
The actor said he felt “angry” about the situation. “Very. I’m angry because my father was taken away from me when I was young. And now there’s a very good chance that I’ll be taken from my girls when they’re very young,” she explained, referring to my daughters more, ” “I mean, at the end of the day, all I want is to spend time with my family and work a little bit if I can.”
Dane credited his neurologist for giving him hope by slowing the progression of the disease.
“I would have thought that it would have been the skin under the human form, but that was not the case,” Dane told more about Dr. Merit Cudkowicz in July. “My attitude and my spirit have been very good. I’m just kind of riding it. It’s not good every day, but the net, I’m in good health.”
