Dick Van Dyke’s Wife Says She Didn’t Sleep The Night Rob Reiner Died

Dick Van Dykeyour wife, Arlene Silverit has details on how Rob ReinerHer husband’s death affected her deeply.
Silver, 54, shared a video on Instagram on Monday, December 15, discussing how early reports of Rob and wife Michele ReinerThe death of Van Dyke at the age of 100 years, respectively, on Sunday, December 14.
“I want to celebrate Dick … but I also want to acknowledge this terrible thing,” Silver told fans. “Dick didn’t sleep last night because he wanted to stay just to know… we don’t know what happened. The first reports were, ‘Two people were found in the house.'” (TMZ was the first to report the incident at Rob and Michele’s home in Brentwood, with the family confirming the couple’s deaths later that night.)
Silver, who has been married to Van Dyke since February 2012, also talked about how she and Van Dyke recently spoke to the Reiners on the phone. “We talked to Rob two weeks ago on the phone. And Michele … I have a lot of messages for Dick’s birthday. [and] Michele and Rob’s are in those messages,” said Silver. “Dick has known Rob since he was little. The Dick Van Dyke Show and I was a fan of his work before I knew him. Rob and Michele lived together as did Dick and me. I always felt like a part of the Reiner family.”
Rob’s father, deceased Carl Reinerthey were created The Dick Van Dyke Showwhich first aired in 1961 and ran for five years.
Silver, a makeup artist who also works as an actress and producer, added that she had mixed feelings about celebrating Van Dyke’s milestone birthday after the Reiners’ death. “It’s been a weird, good, bad weekend,” Silver said in the clip. “I can’t talk about this terrible thing. Dick’s birthday was so amazing, so beautiful. I’m relieved and happy with all that and this happened yesterday.”

Paul Morigi/Getty ImagesSilver also commented on Rob and Michele’s son, Nick Reinerwho was charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter due to the death of his parents. “You know they do everything for that kid,” said Silver. “I had never met him but I met his [Rob’s] other children and they loved their children.”
He added later in the video, “I feel bad for his family. He had a great family.”
Report of Los Angeles Timespublished on Tuesday, December 16, said a representative of the Los Angeles Police Department said that Rob and Michele died in their bedroom on Sunday night. This issue said that the information was entered by the Assistant Chief Dominic Choi at the LAPD’s weekly meeting, and that “the bodies of the couple were found in the bedroom of their home in Brentwood.”
Us Weekly confirmed that Nick, 32, was arrested on a charge of murder without bail on Monday, December 15. The LAPD said in a press conference at the time that Rob and Michele suffered stab wounds and the matter was being investigated as a homicide.
Los Angeles County Attorney Nathan Hochman he said in a press conference on Tuesday that Nick will appear in court after receiving a doctor’s approval. He faces life in prison without parole, or the death penalty.
