Democrats are pressing for more answers to President Donald Trump’s crusade with alleged burning boats in the Caribbean as the number of strikes continues to rise and amid the announcement of a sudden resignation of the military commander overseeing military operations in the region.
While Trump said the strikes were necessary to put drug traffickers and cartels “on notice” and warned that he would hit them “proving to oversee the strikes.
Because of this, the top Democrat on the House Services Committee, Rep. Adam Smith of Washington, urges that the Committee Like John Johnson, R-La.

“President Trump and his administration continue to fail to answer pressing questions regarding the President’s orders to remove US military personnel from killing boats in the Caribbean,” Smith said in a statement on Monday.
“They failed to show the authenticity of these incidents, provide details of the process used, or a list of cartechs designated as terrorist organizations,” said Smith. “We are yet to see evidence to support the President’s unusual decisions that these ships or their activities are caused by threats closer to the United States of America that confirm the military rather than law enforcement.”
The Trump administration has used an aggressive approach to combating the flow of drugs into the US, and designated cartel groups such as Tren de Aragua, Sinaloa and others as international terrorist organizations in February.
In addition, the White House sent lawmakers a memo on September 30 warning them that the US has “non-military” conflicts with drug strikes, and the US military has carried out at least seven strikes on Venezuelan ships.

At that time, the commander of the Southern Command (Southcom), whose area of operation includes the waters of the Caribbean where the boats that deal with these drug boats are operated, announced that he will retire at the end of 2025.
Navy adm. Alvin Holsey, who became commander of the South-South in November 2024, said he will retire from the Navy in December in a highly unusual move. No reason for his strange exit was given, and the Pentagon did not respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital.
However, the New York Times reported on Thursday that Holsey raised concerns and questions about the strikes against suspected drug boats.
“Never in over 20 years on the committee can I recall seeing a commander leave his post this early,” Smith said. “I’ve never seen such a shocking lack of transparency on behalf of the administration of the Department and the Department to inform Congress about the use of lethal force.”
“It’s time for House Republicans to go back to the capitol and negotiate with Democrats so we can all get back to doing our jobs for our homeland security and national defense,” Smith said.
The house has been out of session since September, and, since then, the government has entered a partial shutdown due to lack of funds.

Smith isn’t the only one pushing for more information on Trump’s war on drugs. Lawmakers in the Senate — including some Republicans — are also pushing for greater oversight of the strikes, and questioning whether the strikes were still legal as Trump weighs closer to the next world action.

“The Trump administration has made it clear that they may begin military operations within the borders of Venezuela and will not stop with a boat in the Caribbean,” Schiff said in a statement Friday.
“In recent weeks, we’ve seen more and more movement and reporting of convictions that this is about drug withdrawal,” Schiff said. “Congress does not authorize the power of war against Venezuela. And we must assert our authority to stop the United States from being drawn – by accident – into a full-scale war in South America.”
Trump has issued legal guidelines regarding the attacker, he said on Oct.
