The House of Representatives’ daily Gop Gop Shutdown meeting was briefly interrupted on Wednesday when a Democratic lawmaker disrupted the event.

Johnson told him, “You have to respect free speech,” Houlangan responded, “You have to respect free speech.”
“I ask a question if you are ready to have a conversation with the other side,” said Houlahan from where reporters were gathered at the press conference. “You represent all of us. You speak for all of us, sir.”

Johnson tried to take the question out of hand but he told them, “I don’t hear it because we have someone who doesn’t respect the rights of his colleagues.”
At that time, Houlahan kept shouting at the Speaker as he tried to call.
“You have a responsibility to lie to the American people, you have a responsibility to call the leadership of both parties and bring us together, and solve this problem together,” he said.

“We did that before the shutdown started. I went to the White House. We went and sat in front of a hard desk. We brought [House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y.] In time we had a conversation,” Johnson replied.
“The President said, ‘Please don’t shut down the government, it would be all this pain for the American people.’ This has never happened before. It’s clean, what’s not done by the CR part is that every Democrat, including you, voted for him,” said no.

Houlahan shot back, “You’re such an unacceptable piece of history, sir, and you know it’s there, and it’s needlessly dividing the American people.”
The two continued to talk over each other, with Johnson accusing Houlahan of having ‘regrets’ about his vote.
“No, sir, I don’t regret anything. It’s important that we work together and get together,” he replied.
Johnson said, “I appreciate your input. Now someone gave me a real question.”
“Thank you very much,” he finished.

The tensions are running high on the 36th day of the government shutdown, now the longest in US history.
It was Johnson’s first press conference after Tuesday’s sweeping victory for Democrats in Virginia, New Jersey and New York City.
Republicans watched in anticipation of the Democrat’s decision to weaken amid a lack of funding for food aid programs and paychecks for aviation regulators, but Tuesday night’s win appears to have been reflected by others on the left.

The House passed a temporary federal spending bill on September 19 that aims to give lawmakers until November 21 to reach an agreement on the fiscal year (FY) Repeal of the 2026 rates.

But at least some Democrats are needed to advance the legislation in the Senate, where it failed 14 times more than the left’s demand that funding be blocked by the end of the year extension.
Republicans have argued that funding and health care are separate issues.
