DC Mayor warns National Congress spending threatens American democracy

Washington, DC, Mayor Muriel Bownser, a Democrat, said that she admires that the deployment of the National Guard in cities across the country is legal, as President Trump has moved to send troops to respond to crime.

Speaking Wednesday on the dangers of the most powerful women in Washington, the mayor was asked about not supporting the use of the National Guard to crack down on crime.

“I don’t think it’s legal, let me start there, because it’s a national guard in the United States police force,” said Bowser.

The Mayor went on to explain that the national guard in DC is under the authority of the President, while the national guard is controlled by the governor.

“The Mission and how we use this Gunene – Unlike many places where the governor can call the chief of his national guard or his guards – in DC, Bowser said to the President,” said Bowser.

“When I asked for the national guard, they were absolutely perfect. And so DC is very different than other DC guard areas,” he continued.

The Mayor added: “We use a security guard to respond to emergencies. We use a security guard for major events. We don’t use a security guard or for local police regulations.”

In recent months, Trump has increased the presence of Federal law enforcement in Washington, DC, in an effort to reduce crime. Hundreds of Federal Agents and National Troops are being deployed on the streets of DC as part of the Federal Thatch of the District.

Trump also sent troops to several other Democratic-Led cities, including Chicago. The city, along with its home state of Illinois, took the federal government to court over the distribution.

A federal appeals court returned part of the national guard in Illinois to the federal government, but blocked Trump from sending troops into the streets of Chicago or across Illinois.

Trump also sent security guards to Los Angeles over the summer in response to anti-snow protests that erupted with attacks on immigrants from non-immigrant businesses at home. California authorities are suing the federal agency.

Bowser said in his speech on Wednesday that Americans in Washington and across the country should be concerned about the implications of a democratic democracy.

“We should all be concerned about the military structure being used because it is a slippery slope,” he said.

“You’re using it for crowd control one day, or presence the next day — it’s not a long jump to use it in other ways that can disrupt American democracy,” Borser said.
