CNBC PAPER Joe Kernen pressed Sen. Peter Welch, D-vt., on Wednesday voted repeatedly to continue the government shutdown.

In the “squawk box,” Kernen said always in the democratic group by participating in the administration “looking for more political advice to reopen the government. Welch agreed that the shutdown was “bad” but defended his votes as a way to deal with the problems related to the funding of Obamacare that is used to expire without the actions of Izenzo.

Kernen replied: “You always make sense when you show up,” Kernen replied. “And I said that, and he almost agreed that you shouldn’t shut down the government, Democrats shouldn’t do that.”

He continued, “And I don’t think you can ever say that corruption is the way Republicans should get it. If they don’t like the IRA or they don’t like conflict, this is not the way to do it.”

Kernen then asked Welch if he was ready to open up the government as a “proper democracy” that might inspire others to do the same.

Scott BessMent rejects the NBC host’s narrative that Trump is to blame for the ongoing shutdown

“You know, I’m not there yet because I’ve had a conversation about how we’re going to work together,” said Welch.

“Is this the right way to do it, Senator?” Kernen pushed back. “For people not getting TSA paychecks? This is bullshit. Do you think this is the right way to do it? In your conscience, do you think it’s the right way to do it?”

Welch said he supported the report from Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo. However, he maintained that the Trump administration has launched an “attack” on health care that needs to be addressed.
