CNN Radio Hist host Charlamagne Thatale told CNN’s Van Jones to shut down Wednesday after criticizing How York City Payle’s speech.
Jones accuses Mamdani of ‘character failure’ during the 20th night of the innocent party on Tuesday, arguing that he had missed the opportunity to bring New Yorkers to his camp after his election.
“I think he missed an opportunity tonight to open up and bring more people into the tent,” Jones said during a CNN panel last night. “I think his tone was sharp. I think he was using the microphone in a way that he almost shouted. And that’s also where there was a tiktok transition and that, so there was something warm, and there was some voice on stage.”
Charlalagne blasted Jones for his comments the next morning, lifting him up in his “ass of the day” segment.

“Man, shut the F up for good, okay? “What do you mean he wasn’t warm enough? He took a victory lap, and he deserved to take victory laps because how do you still see yourself in the Trump era, and do you know how to kill this speech?”
Charlalagne struggled to see what part of the speech Jones might not have objected to, saying his best guess was where he was slandering the accused and the rich man in town by comparing himself to President Donald Trump.
“If a person shows the nation that was betrayed by Donald Trump how to defeat him, it is the village that lifted him up,” said Mamdani speaking about his speech.
Charlemagne argued that there was nothing to distinguish Mamdani’s speech.
“The reason a lot of things don’t change in this country is because you don’t have enough politicians who are willing to challenge capitalism, and, can Ven Jones do that as someone who challenges capitalism and authoritarianism?,” he said.

Then he turned to his district, which Msnnbc hosted Mehdi Hasan, asking him to explain why Jones could find a divisive speech.
Hasan replied that it would be difficult to get Jones’s thoughts, but he gave the context that Jones had praised the first speech of Congress in 2017, and it was said that Trump “became the President of the United States in that moment.”
“So Van Jones thinks that Donald Trump is giving speeches that include the things that unite the President, but you think that Zohran Mamdani, who is multiracial, who contradicts you more about Vanran Mamdani,” he argued.
