CBSA reports drug bust of Chaney-XI chemical giant

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) says it seized 4,300 liters of lead chemicals used to make Fentanyl and other illegal drugs in shipping containers from China, which were bound for Calgary.

The seizure took place in May at the Tsawwassen container testing center in Delta, BC, but was announced publicly by the CBSA on Thursday – one day before Prime Minister Mark Carnelling met with South Korea.

The border agency said officials searched two sea containers on May 13 and 15 and found liters of 3,6-ntanediol, which Canada classifies as a “rape day drug.”

The police also found 500 liters of Fentanyl Prenarser propuonyl chloride and 200 liters of GBL gamma burrolactone, another drug rape site.

The CBSA said the investigation is ongoing.

“This is yet another example of the unwavering dedication shown by the CBSA and RCMP in securing our border and preventing the movement of Fentanyl,” Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree said in a statement.

China is the largest source of precursor chemicals in the manufacture of illegal drugs, including Fentanyl, according to Federal authorities and independent experts.

Carney said Monday that he and Xi would discuss “broad issues, both in terms of trade relations and the evolution of the global system” when they sit down on Friday, but made no mention of the Fentanyl issue.

The meeting will mark an important milestone in the relations and relations of the two countries that have officially met as Justin Trudeau met with the XI during an official visit to China in 2017.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand said after visiting senior officials in China earlier this month that Canada now Ottawa called China “a global power.”

Speaking to the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Anand said Canada and China are “in the process of restoring that relationship.” He said he continues to raise “important issues” with China including transnational repression and human rights.

Canney’s meeting with Xi will come seven months after Foreign Minister Melanie Joly’s confirmation

At the time, Joly said the Federal Government “strongly condemns” actions by China over what they called “drug-related crimes.”

The Prime Minister’s Office said after Carney spoke with Chinese Premier Li Qiang in June that the leaders were committed to working together to address the Fentanyl problem, and they are regularly communicating between the two countries.
