Carney visits UAE Adid pressure to end support for Sudan’s civil war – National

Prime Minister Prime Carney arrived on Wednesday in Abu Dhabi to seek more relations with the United Arab Emirates in fields such as artificial intelligence – just as the country is accused of helping to fill in Sudan.

The trip comes as US President Donald Trump said he plans to focus more on helping to end the brutal civil war after urging action by Washington’s Bin Salman, who visited Washington this week.

Canney’s visit to the UAE, the first by a Canadian prime minister since 1983, is not expected to include a press conference.

His Emirati Hers blocked the media from the Bible meetings that most of the countries are open to visit the machine of other countries during high-level visits.

UAE Prime Minister Sultan Al-Jaber condemned the dramatic entry of Carney, who broke from his plane into a pristine lake filled with armed soldiers.

This week’s meetings aim to attract investment from the Emirati economy and the private sector to help diversify the Canadian economy in response to the US trade war.

The visit comes after years of talks on a financial protection agreement that would boost bilateral relations between the two countries.

While Carney’s plane was en route to the region, Air Canada and Emirates Airline announced an extension to 2032 of the code-sharing agreement signed three years ago. A codeshare agreement allows airlines to market and sell seats to partner airlines, allowing them to offer connections where they are outside their networks.

The UAE has come under political pressure in recent weeks such as human rights groups, the United Nations panel, and the United Nations panel and Washington has accused it of supporting Sudan’s armed forces who are committing horrific acts of violence,

What is behind the civil war in Sudan?

The warring groups have blocked the entry of humanitarian aid and the conflicts have caused great difficulty in sending them around the world.

In January, the outgoing administration of US President Joe Beriden said that the RSF was about to receive a new genocide in the Darfur region. Companies named in the United Arab Emirates were accused of supplying weapons to the war with government funding.

Canada did not join the US in calling for the crisis in Sudan.

In recent months, members of the RSF have posted russeome Social Media Videos showing racial attacks and shootings in hospital rooms. Yale’s Huntington Research Lab says satellite images show pools of blood on the ground, suggesting multiple killings.

Rights groups say they believe the planes are meant to carry humanitarian aid from the UAE to Sudan regularly bringing weapons. They promised the number of flights arriving in the region and the appearance of weapons written in the UAE’s shipping details, and revealed that gold continues to be shipped from Sudan to the UAE.

US plans more action in Sudan

Last week, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that Washington is aware that a certain country has supported the RSF and that the unnamed country needs to stop. His statement was widely interpreted as being influenced by the UAE.

On Wednesday, Trump said he spoke in detail about the civil war with the de facto ruler of Saudi Arabia during their speech on Tuesday. The crown prince, Trump said, urged him to use the power and influence of the president to end the war.

“His majesty would like me to do something strong with regard to Sudan,” Trump said in remarks during a joint meeting with Prince Mohammed in front of us and Saudi business leaders.

“I thought it was just something that was crazy and out of control,” Trump said as he shared the stage with the crown prince. But I can only see how important it is to you, and to many of your friends in the room. “

Trump said Prince Mohammed told him that ending the war “would be the biggest thing you could do, that would be bigger than what you’ve already done.”

It was not clear on Wednesday what action the Trump administration would take, and whether it would publicly reprimand the UAE.

Nicholas COGHLAN, former Canadian ambassador to Sudan, said he was surprised to see the Carney government refuse to eliminate the UAE from public statements.

Coghhlan argued that it would not cause a diplomatic row if Carney visited the community to honor the existing UN embargo on the Darfur region.

“There seems to be too much pussyfooting around, trying not to offend anyone,” he said in an interview.

“The Emirates are a key player in this. It’s just undeniable – even though they deny it – they’re the principal and they’re behind RSF a lot, which is a lot of confidence for both teams.”

The Uae Ambassador to Canada was not available for an interview, but his delegation wrote in a media statement condemning the violence by RSF.

“We are vulnerable to requests to provide any form of support to any fighting group since the civil war began,” the ambassador wrote.

While the UN panel of experts on Sudan said that there is “reliability” of the UAE has been checked by RSF, the ambassador contradicts the report “

The embassy also said that it follows international standards to track gold shipments and protect against flaming conflicts – standards “we have not been able to do to the confidence of exporters.”

Coghhlan said that Canada will damage its reputation for protecting the global order if it does not ask that it be respected by the embargoes and arms of Canadacy reaching Sudan through the UAE.

“Those watching Sudan will be watching the prime minister’s visit carefully,” he said. “This is not a breach of political protocol to call an ally to get a (UN) resolution.”

He said the lack of international pressure allowed the RSF and the Sudanese armed forces to create a cycle of violence that threatens neighboring countries.

“If scongwe were really put into the UA last year – before they ended all the arms sales – We wouldn’t have the genocide that is, I can go on and on, illegally in Darfur,” said Coghlan.

Carney is expected to meet Thursday and Friday with top government and business leaders in Abu Dhabi before flying to the G20 leaders’ summit at the weekend.

Canada’s Country Profile Canada says the UAE has a strong and diverse partnership with “Canada that affects trade,” strengthening security and poverty reduction in other countries, including women and girls. The UAE was a key partner in Canada’s resettlement of Afghans after taking on the Taliban in 2021.

The super-rich kingdom has invested in green technology and combating climate change with its vast royalties, says Global Canada news that “they’re already sending a lot of money to Canada.” Ottawa sees investment potential from the UAE in sectors such as energy, information technology, infrastructure and infrastructure maintenance and healthcare.

Canada exports arms, aerospace products, automobiles and vegetables to the UAE, while more than half of Canada’s imports from the Emirates include iron, steel and aluminum, or products made from those metals.

Canadian exports to the UAE have taken off in recent years, with the Emirates taking a large amount of canola after China banned imports of the Canadian crop between 2019 and 2021. Analysts believe that the canola reaching the UAE in recent years was exported to China.

Both Canada and the UAE say they want to advance human rights around the world, but each government interprets that concept differently. The UAE is a Muslim country that has often seen it back down from oppressive Muslim practices in other countries.
