Brigitte Bardot Died: The famous French actress was 91 years old

Iconic French actress Brigitte Bardot died after a recent health scare. He was 91 years old.

“The Brigitte Bardot Foundation announces with great sadness the death of its founder and president, Madame Brigitte Bardot, a world-renowned actress and singer, who chose to leave her prestigious career to devote her life and energy to the welfare of animals and her foundation,” Bardot’s charity said in a statement to AFP on Sunday, December 28.

The foundation did not specify Bardot’s time or place of death.

News of Bardot’s death comes after she was hospitalized for undisclosed health issues. French newspaper Var-Matin reported in October 2025 that he underwent surgery for a “serious illness” and was in a “worrisome” condition. According to the source, Bardot spent three weeks in the hospital before returning to her home in Saint-Tropez, France, to recover.

Bardot’s office later confirmed to Reuters that she was recovering at home after a “small operation that went well,” noting that she wanted to thank the staff and surgeons at Saint-Jean Private Hospital in Toulon, France.

Days after her medical problems made headlines, Bardot shut down online rumors that she had died.

“I don’t know which idiot started this fake news about my disappearance this evening, but know that I’m healthy and I don’t intend to bow down,” he wrote in French via X in October 2025. “A word to the wise.”

Bardot suffered a previous health scare in July 2023 when paramedics were called to her home to treat her for respiratory problems.

“[Her breathing] she was stronger than usual but she didn’t faint,” her husband, Bernard d’Ormalehe told Var-Matin at that time. “Let’s call it a moment of respiratory distress.”

He went on to say, “Like all people of a certain age, he can no longer tolerate the heat, it happened at the age of 88. He must not make useless efforts.”

Bardot was born in Paris, France, in September 1934, and rose to fame when she acted in a film in 1952. Manina, The Girl In The Bikini at the age of 17. Bardot became a mother in January 1960 with the birth of Charrier’s son, Nicolas. Bardot and Nicolas had a rocky relationship for years, but revealed in 2018 that they had reconciled.

Bardot is survived by her husband, d’Ormale, son Nicolas, granddaughters Anna and Thea and her grandchildren.
