The mid-season finale of Boston Blue finally said Tony TerracianoJack Reagan’s character, but he’s one of the future Blue Blood they appeared later Donnie WahlbergAnother on-screen son has already been recast?
On the Friday, December 19, episode of the CBS series, Danny (Wahlberg) revealed that Jack was doing Doctors Without Borders in Africa, which was a nod to Terraciano, 25, going to medical school to get his Doctor of Medicine.
“It’s important to us to keep the universe alive. We’re an extension of the Blue Bloods universe, and we really take that seriously,” executive producer. Brandon Sonnier you are only told Us Weekly about Jack’s tricks. “So we want to explore other family members. We want to feel like their lives are growing and going on outside of the bubble that we see in Boston Blue.”
He continued: “So it is important for us to keep track of where everyone is, where their lives are taking them and hopefully we will be able to visit them in the future.
Viewers saw Jack and Sean (Andrew Terraciano) grew up before their eyes, so imagine their surprise when CBS ordered a Boston Blue spinoff, focusing on Danny’s relationship with his youngest — with a twist. Before Blue Blood premiered in October, Sean’s role was recast with a new one Mika Amonsen.
A great producer Brandon Margolis open to Us about the possibility of involving Andrew in the spinoff – perhaps in a role that nods to him Blue Blood origin.
“I love that idea. It’s really smart and I think it’s something Donnie might be into,” teased Us. “Because he’s the one who always tries to work on New Kids on the Block references. I’m sure Donnie would be open to it. But I think it’s a very smart idea. When the right opportunities are there, we never say no to a great idea.”
The showrunners also thought hard about finding a way to bring Jack to the screen — even if that meant reprising the role.

John Paul Filo/CBS; Adam-Zwelling/CBS“Is there a chance? Yes, there is a chance,” Sonnier said. “We can tell you that there are more family members who will be joining us in the back half of the season. It’s an ongoing conversation about the various arcs and where we can honor, where we can include and where we can expand the universe. We’re big fans of Blue Bloods and any opportunity we get to fully inhabit the universe and include the Reagans is an opportunity we’re going to take.”
Besides the Reagans, Boston Blue follows the Silver family, including Marcus Scribner as Jonah, Gloria Reuben as Jonah’s mother, Mae, Ernie Hudson as Jonah’s grandfather, Sonequa Martin-Green as Jonah’s sister and Maggie Lawson as his adopted sister, Sarah.
The mid-season finale showed Mae facing the brunt of her investigation into a rogue district attorney, leading to all the cases she’s been working on being called into question. As a result, the murder case of her late husband Ben was put under review and her killer went free.
Jonah didn’t deal well with the decision and spent much of Friday’s episode putting himself in danger while tracking down his father’s killer. At the end of the finale, Jonah followed the killer into the building – only for Danny and Lena (Martin-Green) to enter after hearing gunshots and seeing a man dead while Jonah was covered in blood.
“The most interesting stories to tell that way are the most emotional.” So it made a lot of sense for us to explore the grief of the father, which was a way to explore the whole Silver family,” Margolis commented to Us. It was a really fun opportunity to explore that with the character of Jonah because Marcus is such an amazing actor. Most people don’t realize how talented you are with an amazing mind. It was an opportunity to write him so we could show him something fun and show him something fun.
Sonny teased how Jonah, who seems to be accused of murder, will play.
“We are entering the police process, so it is about the family gathering Jonah to get to the bottom of this crime. And to gather not only what happened but why it happened to look at the big crime that is being played here in the killing of the former ancestor of the Silver family,” he added. “This is a real test for Danny, Sean, Lena, Sarah and Mae and the whole family as they come together to try to save Jonah from his actions.”
Boston Blue, renewed for season 2, will continue to push boundaries, Margolis added, “We’re looking more at the emotional challenges that can exist between seasons – instead of the process. But what’s exciting about this show is that these characters are so rich and they have so many deep stories that we can explore and put under pressure that there are so many exciting possibilities.”
Boston Blue returns to CBS on Friday, February 27, at 10 pm ET. New episodes will air the next day on Paramount+.
