Bolsonaro even begins a 27-year prison sentence for the effort of the Brazilian Couple – nationally

Former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro on Tuesday began his 27-year prison sentence, surprising many in the South American nation where he was once behind bars.

Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, who is presiding over the case, ruled that Bolsonaro will remain in custody after being wrongfully arrested on Saturday.

Supporters and detractors of the embattled leader have gathered outside Federal Police headquarters since the order was issued, with some calling for Bolsonaro’s release and others for his release from prison.

The front-runner had been tied since August and was picked up on Saturday after trying to break his ankle brace. Bolsonaro blamed “hallucinations,” the claim that De Moraes was distracted by his order of arrest.

Bolsonaro will not communicate with several other prisoners at federal police headquarters. His square meter room has a bed, a private toilet, an air conditioner, a TV set and a desk, according to the federal police.

De moraes ruled on Tuesday that Bolsonaro’s defense has ended all appeals against his conviction. His lawyers did not agree and promised to continue with the requests to apply for house arrest due to the poor health of the former leader. A Supreme Court justice has ruled against it.

“There is no legal admissibility of any other appeal,” Moraes said in his decision.

Bolsonaro remains Brazil’s political figurehead, although he is barred from running for office until at least 2030 after a separate ruling by Brazil’s Electoral Court. The first day of his prison sentence should mark that extension to 2033.

Polls show he could be a candidate next year if allowed to run.
