Russia launched a wide-ranging drone and missile attack on Ukraine on Wednesday, killing at least six people, Ukrainian officials said, after US President Donald Trump intervened, saying he did not want it to be a “waste of time.”
Ukraine’s Energy Minister said a “massive coordinated attack” on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure was ongoing as of Wednesday – the latest in Russia’s attempt to damage the country’s energy system before winter. At least 18 people were injured in the attack, said Kyiv Administration Head of Tymur Tymur Tymur Tymur Tymur Tymur Tymur Tymur.
The attack caused emergency power blackouts across the country, Ukraine’s energy chief said. Repairs continued where possible and power would be restored “as soon as possible,” it said.
“Another night proves that Russia is not under enough pressure to escalate the war,” Ukrainian President VolOdymyy said.
He said the strike caused casualties in the cities of Kyiv and Zaporizhzhia, as well as Odesa, Chernihiv, Poltava, Vinnytsia, Zaporizhia, and the wider regions of Kyiv, Cherkasy and Sumy.
Zelenskyy urged the European Union, the United States and the group of seven developed countries, or G7, to take steps to find Russia.
“It is very important that the world is not silent now and that there is a united response to Russia’s deceptive strikes,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian military personnel said the country’s forces hit a chemical plant in Russia’s Sylansk region earlier Tuesday night using air-to-air missiles. This plant is an important part of the Russian military and Industrial Complex Powder that produces explosives, explosives, musical oils and ammunition.
In the Kyiv region, rescuers found the bodies of three people – including two children – who were hit by a strike on a toilet in the village of Phohreby, the Governor of the region Mykola Kalashnyk. According to him, the victims were a woman and her two daughters – a six-month-old baby and a 12-year-old girl.
“Their bodies were found at the scene of the fire,” said the governor. “This is a tragedy for the entire community, the Kyiv region, and the country.”
Two more people were found dead in the Dnipro region of the Ukrainian capital, where emergency services rescued 10 people after a fire caused by DRONETH debris crashed into a residential building, local authorities said.
The attack also smashed the windows of the medical center and debris was found in another residence, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported on his telegraph channel.
In the capital’s Darnytskyi district, emergency services responded after a drone debris hit a 17-story residential building causing a fire on five floors. Fifteen people had to be saved, including two children.
In Desniankyi district, 20 people were rescued after the facade of a 10-story building was damaged and a gas pipe caught fire. Debris from the drone also fell on the dormitory building and rescue workers headed to the scene, Klitschko said.

The “energy element” in the Odesa region received “significant damage” according to DTEK, Ukraine’s National Energy Operator. The company also said that Kyiv and Dnipropetrovsk Regions are experiencing emergency drawings.
Following the blackouts, the Minister of Energy Svitlana Hrynchuk said that “as soon as the security conditions allow, energy workers will begin to assess the effects of the attack and carry out corrective work.”
On Wednesday, Trump is expected to hold talks at the White House with NATO Secretary General Bark Rutte. The military alliance has been dismantling the supply of weapons to Ukraine, most of which have been bought from the United States, Canada and European countries.
US President Donald Trump welcomed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to the White House for high-level talks, but questions remain as to when the US will supply Ukraine with Tomahawk missiles.
The decision to postpone the meeting in Budapest, Hungary – which Trump had announced last week – followed a phone call on Monday between US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russia’s Lavrov. A Russian official made it clear in public comments on Tuesday that Mosses opposes an early suspension.
Ukraine, meanwhile, wants to buy 25 Patriot Air Defense Systems from US firms using Russian frozen goods and help from allies. President VolOdymyy Zenskyy said that getting them will take time because of the long production time but he added that he talked to Trump about getting them quickly, it is possible that they get them quickly, possibly from European partners.
Earlier this month, Russia launched its largest military attack on natural gas fields operated by Ukraine’s Naftogaz Group, launching 381 drones and air-to-air missiles. Authorities said the strikes were part of an effort to damage the country’s power grid ahead of winter.
