Bethenny Frankel Calls Rob Reiner’s Death ‘Cautionary Statement’

“The tragedy of Rob Reiner reminded me of something I already know to be true,” said Frankel, 55, in an Instagram video on Monday, December 15. “When you hear something – when you feel threatened by something – or something makes you uncomfortable and you think that something is incomprehensible, every situation like this is someone’s child or parent or sister or brother or friend.

Frankel – who has spoken about his own childhood abuse – said that “I’ve had situations where I’ve felt vulnerable” and because of that he “acted accordingly.”

“Maybe something wouldn’t happen but other things happen with mental health, addiction and insanity or temporary insanity or anger or jealousy – all these things we see as cautionary tales,” he continued. “It could happen to you.”

Captions posted on social media read, “Err on the side of caution.” The advice comes after Rob and his wife Michele Singer Reiner were found dead at the ages of 78 and 68, respectively, from “stab wounds,” by police, in their Los Angeles home. Their son Nick Reiner, 32, was arrested after the crime and is currently being held without bail.

Nick has struggled with substance abuse over the years, a source tells us Us Weekly that Rob, Michele and Nick go there Conan O’BrienChristmas party on Saturday, December 13. Nick allegedly made a “dramatic” appearance at the party before leaving, according to a source.

Many tributes have come out as Hollywood mourns the loss of Rob and Michele. Ben Stiller called the tragic event “a great loss,” adding of X, “Rob Reiner was one of my favorite directors. He made some of the most formative films of my generation.”

He continued: “He came out [from] after the huge comedy reputation of the great Carl Reiner and being a TV actor to become a great director who makes amazing movies. Spinal Tap is one of the best comedies ever made – and the list goes on. He was a really kind caring person, really funny. I didn’t know him well but I was always a fan and I feel sorry for those who knew him, and his family.”

Kathy Bateswho won an Oscar for her role in Reiner’s Sadnessin a statement he said he was “very saddened” by the news.

“I loved Rob. He was smart and kind, a man who made all kinds of movies to challenge himself as an artist,” he told NBC News. “She also fought bravely for her political beliefs. She changed the course of my life. Michelle was a photographer. She shot my beautiful photos for the Grief campaign. My heart goes out to them both. My thoughts are with their family.”

Before their deaths, Rob and Michele spoke candidly about their efforts to support Nick, 32, during his battle with addiction. (The couple, who married in 1989, shared three children: Jake, Nick and Romy. Rob also took a former wife. Penny Marshall’Tracy’s daughter.)

“If your child is going through difficult times, [as] As a parent, your primary job is to keep your child safe. So I can do anything,” Rob said during a Build Series interview in 2016. “At the end of the day, I know my child better than the experts and maybe I should have trusted my instincts and that’s one of the things I’ve learned about everything that’s going on.”

Rob revealed that he apologized to Nick for the way they handled his affairs.

“When Nick told us it wasn’t working for him, we didn’t listen,” Rob told the Los Angeles Times in 2016.

During the interview, Michele added, “We were influenced a lot by these people. They could tell us that he was lying, that he was trying to deceive us.
