Anthony Hopkins describes the life-changing epiphany that once changed the course of his life forever.
Nearly 50 years on, Hopkins remembers the moment he stopped drinking alcohol and started living with purpose.
The Academy Award-winning actor admitted that he was “drinking like it was out of fashion” at the height of his alcoholism.

During the sit-down “conversation,” Hopkins noted that he was hesitant to tell the story for fear of “two-shoes preaching.”
“I was drunk, driving my car here in California, with a blackout – no clue where I was going,” Hopkins said.
“It was a moment when I realized that I had killed someone – or I, I was not moaning the family in the car. I said that it was someone who was addicted to me in this group in the hills of Beverly Hills, ‘”

“I made a fatal phone call to an intergroup in LA, a 12-step program. They said, ‘We’re going to send someone to meet you,’ and I said, ‘No, I’m going to come to you.'”

When Hopkins arrived at the meeting, he heard a “deep, powerful thought” that told him, “It’s all over. Now you can start living and everything has its purpose.”
Around the same time, Hopkins said, his cravings for alcohol just left.
“I don’t know if I have ideas other than divinity, or that power we have inside us that creates us from birth – the life force – all that I am.

Hopkins admitted that he drank the worst, even if it was for me, because it made me feel good. You know the booze is telling because I enjoyed it. “
Before getting bored, he remembered thinking to himself, “this is going to kill me … I was drinking like it was going out of fashion.”
In December, the silence of the “star” star remembered his decades of songriaty shared on Instagram.
“49 years ago today, I quit … and I was having a lot of fun, but I realized I was in big, big trouble because I couldn’t remember anything,” she said. “I was driving a car with a lot of alcohol in my head. Then on that fatal day I realized that I needed help. So I got it.”

He added, “If you have a problem – having fun is great, having a drink is fine – but if you have a problem with booze, there’s a situation. If you’re sober, you get help. There’s a lot of help.”

After celebrating his genius, Hopkins admitted, “I’ve had a good life. They’re still hiring me, they’re still giving me jobs.”
He added, “I’m celebrating my long life, my unexpected longevity.”
