Adapted from Maggie O’Farrell’s 2020 novel of the same name, “Hamnet” tells the story of William Shakespeare’s only begotten son, Hamnet, told from the perspective of his wife Anne Hathaway – referring to Agnes.

Jessie Buckley stars as Agnes, a rebellious farm girl who sparks love for Will (Paul Mescal), an aspiring playwright and poet. An unplanned pregnancy leads to them tying the knot and going on to have three children: Susanna is followed by twins Hamnet and Judith.

While Agnes is raising the children in the countryside, she will travel back to London in the hope of pleading for her job while Agnes raises the children in the countryside. “Hamnet” is a moving period drama that showcases tender, cinematic art and great acting. It’s films like this that should make us thankful that we have the ability to feel as human beings, even if it is. That’s why we went to the movies.
