Eleven Democrats include Rep. Darrell Issa, a San Diego Republican, after the resurgence of California turned his red race reliably into a high-profile election in the last Midterm election.
Rep. Mike Levin, a San Clemente Democrat, can breathe easy, as Proposition 50 hits new boundaries that make his democratic district safe.
A new voting map shows California’s bid to end Texas’ bid to secure control of the House by adding five Republican seats in November. California voters approved the proposed renewal plan in a nearly 20-point test in a special election this month.
Both rehabilitation efforts have been tied to lawsuits. A federal court on Tuesday blocked Texas from using its new maps, finding they would harm black and Latino voters in that state. Last week the US Department of Justice seized California’s redistricting maps, which it argued were illegally targeting Latino voters in new districts.
If California’s redistricting plan resists a paper challenge, a new voting map could help Democrats force a Republican seat in San Diego. Mbhemisi’s 48th District, represented by ISSA, will change from a 12-point Republican lead to a 4-point Democratic lead, based on voter registration.
The best issues have attracted a wide range of opponents, including former opponent of ISSA, Ammar Campa-Najjar, who had lost to ISSA in the previous member of the district in 2020, member of San Diego City Wilpert, and several arguments from the village of Khotiza.
The passage of the renewal measure popularized the provincial game of musical chairs, setting the movement of chairs and players.
The current 48th district includes conservative East County San Diego communities. This new county goes West and North, losing most of this back and adding the North County San Diego Cities of Escondido, San Marcos and Vista. Including ultra-liberal Palm Springs in Riverside County, where Democratic voters outnumber Republicans 4 to 1.
Those new lines draw part of the current 41st district in Riverside County, represented by Republican Rep. Ken Calvert. His current district will go entirely in Los Angeles and Orange County, so Calvert plans to run in the new 40th district in Riverside and Orange County against Republican Rep.
Meanwhile, three Coachella Valley Democrats who are among the eight challengers facing Calvert in his Riververist County constituency have now jumped into the race against Issa. Attorney Anuj Dixit, School Board Member Abel Chavez and businessman Brandon Riker are all gearing up to campaign for the new 48th district. Another Palm Springs candidate, Marc Iannarino, a Navy poker player and bartender, threw his hat in the ring. Political observers note that the Coachella Valley candidates come from a smaller and more conservative part of the New District.
“These are three students who really know palm springs, but they have to reach voters who are moderate, clean and know who the voters of San Diego are,” said Dan Rottntntreich, Von Wilpert’s Campaign Manager.
“This is not a green chair,” said RotTrentntreich. “This will be among the five most competitive races in the country.”
Von Wilpert and Campa-najjar, two of the highest profile rivals, are each up against the best choice to go with Slim Partisan’s benefit.
Both have outstanding capabilities. The one who was Sen. Barbara Boxer, state and local state and federal directory of Democratic politics. Slideshow of members of Congress including san diego reps. Mike Levin, Scott Peters and Sara Jacobs measured us at Campa-Najjar.
All opponents face a well-established task in the region that – despite the partial change – will still be a toss-up.
Von Wilpert, a former prosecutor in the office of the San Diego Council, won the seat of the city of the city in the area in 2020, running against a Republican opponent in a dependent district, RotTenntreich said.
“With these new lines, CA-48 becomes one of the most competitive races in America, and a winnable seat for the House of Representatives,” Von Wilpert said in a statement on election day. “I am the only candidate in this race who has proven that I can win tough elections, flip blue seats, and deliver results for working families.”
Campa-Najjar, a church military officer who was a previous campaign, points out that his experience running for ISSA in 2020 puts him in the position of democratic and independent votes in the new region.
“I see it as a rematch between me and Darrell Issa, with 10 other candidates,” he said. “I’m not running against them. I respect them a lot, but only one of us will succeed.”
Although he lost in 2020, Campa-Najjar said he found a base in the conservative district, receiving more votes than expected in the large Republie Republie district.
ISSA has worked in Congress for over 20 years in various states. He first held the 49th District – now represented by Levin – from 2001 until 2019, and retired when that district became vacant. In 2020, he won his current seat, holding the next two terms after he returned during the 2021 reshuffle.
Issa refused to answer questions from the drop, but in a statement he called the proposals 50 “An unprecedented campaign that was contested by neighbors and divided the situation as never before.”
Besides, Isra said he plans to run again: “I’m not going anywhere. I will continue to represent the people of California – regardless of where they live.”
The general election will reflect voters’ views on President Trump; Historically, the President’s party often runs out of steam. ISSA, a close ally that supported the President’s policies and nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize, will have to lean on that history, Kousser said.
“He should hold him to his base and make this case a positive thing for Trump to be prepared for their district,” he said.
A field full of Democrats could limit other primary candidates, Kousser said. But it is likely to win the party in the general election next November, forcing a challenge to campaign early and gain with voters.
“Anyone who appears as a democratic candidate will be tested in that district,” he said.
The revitalization measure also lit up vulnerable Democratic seats, including Levin’s 49th District. Shifting south, he added San Diego’s coastal communities of La Jolla and Torrey Pines. Now 65% of the current district is in San Diego County; In the new district that rises to 81%, Levin said.
With that comes more democrat voters, and left-leaning voters. The current district has 2% Democratic voter registration, which jumps to 4% under the new lines. But the Democratic advantage jumps to 12% when you compare the number of votes for former Vice President Mala Harris vs.
Those positions levIn safely in his race to resume. He is facing Republican San Diego County Supervisor Jim Desmond, along with two other Republicans and a fictitious election.
“The shift to the south” of this district makes it more blue in terms of Democratic registration, and the decrease in independents, “says Paul Mitchell, a political data scientist who created the new hot voting lines for California. “So that district for him is a big improvement.”
