Authorities believe the Afghan migrants suspected of attacking members of the National Guard in Washington, DC, last week were better off after arriving in the US, the Homeland Security Secretary said Sunday.
Law enforcement authorities have identified Rahmanullah Lakanwalwal, 29, as the suspect in Wednesday’s shooting that happened just blocks from the White House, killing another security guard.
“We believe that he was well organized since he was here in this country,” Noem told NBC News. “We believe it was about connecting with the community and the home country, and we will continue to talk to those who connected with him, who were members of his family.”
He added that US officials had found “some involvement” from people who knew Lakanwal.

Lakanwal entered the US legally in 2021 under the Biden Administration’s Allies Welcome program, a program that was disrupted and turned back refugees from Afghanistan as the Taliban took power in Afghanistan.
Noem said that although asylum was officially granted to Lakanwal during the Trump administration in April, it all happened where Afghans and other foreign nationals were looked after during the presidency of Joe Biden’s.

“When this abandonment of Afghanistan happened, the biden administration put people on planes [and] “He brought himself to the United States without showing off,” said Noem. They brought them into our country and said they would take them out later. “
“All that vetting information was collected by Joe Biden’s administration,” he added. “Joe Bidnen did absolutely nothing to do with any of these people.”
According to Noem, President Donald Trump has already initiated measures to strengthen the exposure of incoming migrants, including reviewing the work of social media and checking who they communicate with.

After the devastating attack on Thanksgiving Eve, Trump also announced that his administration will impose further restrictions on immigrants who want to enter the United States, including a freeze on all immigrants from “third world countries.”
“The President is absolutely willing to stop all procedures at this time from foreign countries in the world until we have a complete opportunity to pass through these people,” said Noem.
