Best Medicines you have Abigail Spencer caught in a fictitious love triangle Josh Charles again Josh Segarra – but how will it continue to play on the screen?
While talking only with Us Weekly during a planned visit, Spencer, 44, discussed how Best Medicines is different from Doctor Martinwhich is the inspiration for the Fox show.
“A lot of that is in the quality of the writing [executive producer] Liz Tuccillo does a great job. You will see the difference in the original Doc Martin. That show isn’t really built on a love triangle with a will-they-will-they-won’t-they favorite,” noted Spencer, who plays Louisa. I think good TV is a will-they-will-they-won’t. So how do you do that with faith over time and navigate that?”
The actor praised the show for bringing out a heartwarming story.
“It’s great. It’s natural in the writing. Just getting that detail. Like Liz and I were going, ‘When do you go from calling him Dr. Best to Martin because of that knowledge?'” Spencer recalled. “So we’re still navigating that. But I like the details to be weird all the time. I think hopefully people will feel that way.”
Best Medicinesairing Tuesday, January 6, follows a doctor who “moves from the city of Boston, Massachusetts, to a small fishing village in an East Coast village where he went on vacation as a child,” according to an official release.

“Everybody loves Louisa. She’s a city school teacher. I’d say she’s also a city storm,” Spencer teased Us. “Louisa has been playing by the rules, doing the right thing and has changed by ending her eight-year relationship with the sheriff.”
Spencer pointed out that Louisa’s recent decisions will “upset the town” of Port Wenn, adding, “It’s great to see her busy with her life. It makes room to maybe meet someone new. …
He added: “And they’re best friends, so I think it’s sad. They love each other and they’re like two peas in a pod. But they might not be compatible romantically.”
There is also Dr. Charles’s Martin Best, who finds himself attracted to Louisa after moving to Port Wenn. Apart from her personal life, Louisa will grow up as a school teacher of the town.
“There’s a big reveal about Louisa being promoted – possibly. That’s what I love about it is that there can be something really good happening but also something bad happening at the same time, which is funny and how everyone deals with it,” he said. “You see him at school a lot. You see him with people and really a community – seeing people interact. People do things together but you can’t run away from everyone. The show is really about community. How did you look at relationships – good and bad – and keep them healthy?”
Best Medicines airs Tuesdays on Fox at 8 pm ET.
