A Quebec couple was found dead while on vacation in the Dominican Republic, according to their family.

Gilles Sauve Jr. shared a post on Facebook saying that her sister Christine Sauvé, 55, and her husband Alain Noël, 56, “died in their sleep on the night of December 25 to 26.”

“Out of respect for our family and out of grief when we are alone, we ask for your time and understanding. We will not be answering questions at this time. We are waiting to get more answers before we can share more details,” he wrote on Saturday.

The couple’s daughter, Sabrina Noël, also posted on Facebook announcing the death of her parents.

“Out of respect for our family and to deal with this grief privately, we ask for time and understanding.” We will not answer questions at this time,” he wrote.

“We are waiting for more answers to our questions before telling you more. Thank you for respecting our silence and keeping us in your thoughts.”

Global Affairs Canada (GAC) also confirmed the death of the couple.

In a statement sent to Global News, it said it was “aware of two Canadian citizens who died in the Dominican Republic.”

“GAC extends its condolences to the family and loved ones. Canadian officials are providing diplomatic assistance and are contacting local authorities to gather more information. Due to confidentiality considerations, no further information can be released,” GAC added.

According to the local media source, El Nacional, the couple was found dead last Friday in the area where they lived, in the municipality of Villa Riva in El Indio Village, Dominican Republic.

The son of Sauvé and Noël found their bodies in the holiday home and called the local authorities after realizing that both had no vital signs, reported El Nacional.

The bodies of Sauvé and Noël were found by authorities and sent to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences in Santo Domingo, where they will be examined to determine the cause of death, according to local media outlet Diario Libre.

The case is currently being investigated by the public prosecutor’s office and the National Police.
